I was talking to some friends, and realized that we're ski hipsters. (We being myself and a lot of NS)

We buy stuff from obscure companies like ON3P, Saga, Moment, EC Headwear...

We do things the majority of the skiing population doesn't really get (park being one of them, or kids skiing exclusively park)

Trying to think of other comparisons.

Yes? No? Fail?

Most of NS thinks that everyone but themselves has shitty taste in music, even though, ironically, they are usually listening to shitty music.

I don't try to wear clothes that my grandma used to ski in... I can ride my skis down a hill without constantly flailing my legs uncomfortably. I don't go to coffee shops, and if I do I got to starbucks. I'd rather buy something at walmart than a local company if it will save me a buck. I am not a hipster.

Trust me, I have 3 bags of dd coffee in my cabinet. Fucking Utah doesn't have any dunkins though so that's not an option.

And to the other guy, coffee shops are very hipsterish and starbucks is the least hipsterish because it's a corporation... duh.

no, were skiers. we buy clothing and gear from ski companies. maybe if we all wore our grandmas's sweaters and hiked up a pant leg we would be ski hipsters

Lol, it's so true. While there are differences on the surface, like what we wear, it's the attitude. Keeping it underground? That's like a hipster's job. Trying so hard not being mainstream, but you still look like every other park rat in Saga or First Drop. Criticizing everyone's taste in music. "Oh they suck, they're mainstream" You listen to "underground" hip hop, and hipsters listen to indie rock. You guys scoff at people who wear normal clothing and ski "mainstream" trails (blue squares).

Oh, and most of all, you guys deny it fervently. A sure sign of being a hipster.

I understand what you are getting at but I always think about it like the main stream skiers are bros like bobby brown, simon dumont, and the hipsters are guys like Ian Wade, Max Hill ( because they are hipsters).

Ummmmm I dont know about that. One of their riders is David Steele, and that kid is the biggest hipster I have ever met. Always slack-lining and talking about saving the earth and reading books. He even has a tattoo of a PBR logo on his back I mean c'mon super hipster. I mean his name on Facebook is David Ironic Steele.

Claim hipsterdom if you want, but a true hipster skier would have fixed binding skis (no DIN release sorry kids, rules is rules). And wear one pieces and drink PBR constantly. Without that you just aren't hardcore enough to be a hipster skier.

I can kinda see your point.

I like skiing moguls and constantly bitch about how fat skis, high speed quads and shaped skis are ruining skiing. (No moguls form when intermediates can "ski" the good runs and skiers almost do more damage to the pow as snowboarders now.)
