I'm confused about the flex of my boots...

I bought the dalbello voodo thinking it was a soft flexing boot....I can't move those things stiff as a rock

im 5 7" and 140 pounds..am I just not heavy enough?

ON the back, theres a bolt and you can change it from stiff too soft. But i'm not sure. Mine are pretty stiff, I think they get real stiff when you tighten then ankle buckle alot.

Even on the hard setting the flex is like 90 or something. Put some meat on them bones.

my brother has them and he had the same problem you have to get them about one finger or smaller for them to move properly his were about 2 fingers room and he had the same thing wrong with his i would have gotten a smaller size.

You really can just have a bootfitter softer them too, they have little structures on the shell that are meant to be ground down for that reason.

She is right, the spades series of boots fit huge. You really need to downsize one to fit properly. I typically have a 27.5, and i needed a 26.5. Boot was still fit like a bucket, so i sold it.

Voodoos are soft boots. Either there's something wrong with them or you're doing something very wrong.

yeah the only thing wrong is that he's 140lbs. definately too stiff for you.

seriously people, go to a bootfitter! the fact that you said that you chose a boot because it's supposed to be soft means you either didn't see a bootfitter or told some hack that's the boot you wanted.


do not buy a boot based on claims of how they fit or how soft/stiff they are. go see a professional!

I weigh 145 and had a pair of the dalbello kryptons. they were soft, but i couldn't flex them.  They just didn't work with my body geometry.  i have a pretty short distance from my knee to my ankle and the boot seemed to be pretty tall. i went to a Lange, which is actually quite a bit stiffer, but I can flex the boot way more due to the shorter cuff. 

go to a bootfittter.  everyone is different and that's why there are many boots to choose from.  Lange happens to work much better for me.

Most likely, you have a boot that is 2-3 sizes too big, because you went with your street shoe size, and now instead of your boot flexing, your foot slides back, and your shins bang into the top of the cuff... sound about right?

sounds about wrong..my foot doesn't slide..everyone that has the boots (which are also CORRECTLY fitting) agree with what i'm saying...I feel as if dalbello's elimination of the powerstrap fucked up the whole design..the whole powercuff thing is the reason why the boot won't flex

im havin the same prollem as baskin. i think the problem is that its designed to get stiffer as the boot flexes more. our thing is.. we r both little mountain skiers, so we're always on rails... we have 1 jump... we just wanna be able to play around.

i was thinking of taking the tounges out and hitten em with a heat gun a little and hope that softens it. anyone done that? also, i heard about grindin parts down, but idk wat to grind :/

If you have the forward lean inserts try that.

I know on my krptons the forward lean effects the flex a lot, just put on more forward lean and it'll help you flex them. I find with no forward lean they are too stiff for me.

The explanation is exactly what you quoted. Most if not all ski boots can be made permanently softer with grinding.

No, you have to go to a specialty shop, with a GOOD boot fitter.

And taking a heat gun to boot plastic might actually stiffen the tongue, but it will definitely make it more brittle. You should NOT do that.

yeah i wasn't going to go through the trouble of a heat gun anyways..but thanks ill see what my local shop can do..ill make the hike to a better shop if its needed

im still gonna look into it... cuz it really depends on the plastic. i know that lacrosse heads get softer when you put em in boling water for a little, and theyre permenantly softer. and breant, im pretty sure evryone thats saying go to a boot fitter to get em grinded know THAT much and thats it. i'd imagine they actualy grind stuff on the cuffs and joints tho...

I don't know if this is something I should be doin..but i realized if i use my booster straps then i can leave the top buckle loose thus giving me more flex without having a gap between my shins and the boots

it will be softer, but it will allow your liner to rattle around inside the shell... could create other issues.

well i'm gonna give it a try....i'm gonna heat gun the tongues to soften them though becuase someone else did it on their voodos and they were happy with the results

as a bootfitter:

this could raise you out of the heel pocket

and will make the boot fit longer

i disagree with this solution.

Did you ski on them or are you in your living room wearing them around?

Assuming the boots fit correctly... they will require a few runs to work them in....the cold will make them stiffer of course, but you really need to ski them a bit before you decide to do anything dramatic.

If you still aren' t satisfied after a few days...go see the bootfitters that you bought them from (assuming you did see a proffessional in the first place) they will make modifications---see megazord post---

Now if you bought them online, and haven' t actually used them of course, attempt to send them back because they might not fit or might not fit you footshape properly....

Its not a heel lift, they actually have an adjustable forward lean.

I have had Dalbello's for 5 years now. The powerstrap most certainly adds rigidity to the forward flex of the boot. It ties the the tongue into the frame of the boot in a way that the top buckle (which is positioned low on Dalbellos) cannot successfully do on its own. Leaving the powerstrap undone is akin to leaving buckles undone.

All dalbello boots have different flex tongues, could be that you just need to order a softer tongue from them?  They are rated a/b/c or some shiz.  I know with my il moro's thats the case.
