Philosophies/Spirituality

So I was just curios what most of the skiing community tends to gravitate towards as far as a life philosophy, or spirituality.  So post what you believe in, religions are cool to post, just don't start a shitstorm.  If you don't believe in anything, say that. 
 
I find this shit interesting, what people believe in and how the choose to live their lives.

Personally,  I am a philosophical Taoist/Daoist.  In short that means that I believe in no gods, however I do believe in a power greater than myself, and that would be the natural flow of nature.

I'm a pacifist... legitimately. If there was a draft I'm more than willing to sit in prison for the rest of my life. I personally believe that's the more honorable position to take. I'm no "draft dodger," I just believe it's absolutely wrong to harm another human being in any way.

That being said, I believe in God, I'm not really sure where to go beyond that though. I don't think you can say "I believe/don't believe in evolution." That's just a fact in my book; I guess it kind of has to do with the fact that half of my major is evolution.

Well I grew up going to a United Methodist church which was pretty solid, but I usually just say I'm a Christian. I feel like people get far too caught up with the differences between denominations instead of just agreeing to disagree on the subtle differences and coming together on the fact that they all believe in and follow the same basic principles.

At the end of the day I think people should just live their life how they see fit and do the best that they can. Be thankful, do good things, don't do bad things. Obviously that concept varies depending on individuals morals and personal views, but I think it's a pretty simple concept that is pretty universal and at the end of the day if you look inside of yourself, you know whether you are living right or not.

Religion: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices ; : a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.               Well, science is not religion and it doesn't just come down to faith. Although it has many of religion's virtues, it has none of its vices. Science is based upon verifiable evidence. Religious faith not only lacks evidence, its independence from evidence is its pride and joy, shouted from the rooftops. Why else would Christians wax critical of doubting Thomas? The other apostles are held up to us as exemplars of virtue because faith was enough for them. Doubting Thomas, on the other hand, required evidence. Perhaps he should be the patron saint of scientists. One reason I receive the comment about science being a religion is because I believe in the fact of evolution. I even believe in it with passionate conviction. To some, this may superficially look like faith. But the evidence that makes me believe in evolution is not only overwhelmingly strong; it is freely available to anyone who takes the trouble to read up on it. Anyone can study the same evidence that I have and presumably come to the same conclusion. But if you have a belief that is based solely on faith, I can't examine your reasons. You can retreat behind the private wall of faith where I can't reach you. Your move ;)

In the end, it doesn't matter if there's a god or not.

The truth is, your life has an expiry date, and every day is the most fucking important day of your life. Don't waste a moment, and don't wast time on the bullshit. Life is too short to be unhappy, hold grudges, or worry about the small things. Be everything you can be, be accountable, blame nobody but yourself and live life to its fullest.

This isn't even supposed to be a religion thread.  This is a what are you thread.  Clearly focused on philosophies and spirituality, religion can be a part of it too, but apparently people are changing it into a debate.  Haha, saw that coming that's why I tried to emphasize the don't start a shit storm.

i believe in being happy. loving everything as much as you can, being a good person to others, sharing your happiness, etc.. only makes your world more positive, and the happiness and positivity multiplies. and when bad situations arise, you try to look at the positive side, know that everything happens for a reason, and bad things are a result of bad energy.
and its all about real happiness, not artificial happiness through drugs and alcohol, thats not finding happiness, its altering your state of mind with a substance.
not saying i am always like this, i TRY to be like this, its hard as hell, i know it sounds like a bunch of hippie nonsense. but its insane how awesome you feel and how well everything works out when you get into a groove. it starts with little things, and the more you keep your positive groove flowing the bigger the things become and suddenly everything is going how you like, everything happening around you is positive, everyone around you is happy etc.. its awesome.

my thoughts on religion are basically that we are not smart enough to know 100% for sure if there is a god or not, and who that god might be.
and heaven/religion/god is what we want it to be, and what we make it to be. id consider myself a spiritual person, just not a religious person, i believe that there is some higher power/spirit or whatever you wanna call it, and no one religion has it right, and its something you have to find and figure out yourself.

Evolution through the species has been proven to near perfection, but not the old-earth model where life began in the oceans. That is a theory, and is as much based on faith as any religion.

Most religious people don't have a problem with the idea of evolution. I don't - I don't try to figure out how it all started, it's irrelevant, and we will never really know.
