Rodeo Tips?

I've been trying to land a rodeo but cant quite get it down correctly. I keep under flipping when I try it and I just need help on setting my spin i guess and stopping from dipping my head under. CAN YOU HELP ME?


Help me turn this into a rodeo.

Had the same problem, you just have to set it way more to the side. It helped me to think of it as nothing at all like a backflip, cause it's really not. Set it almost exactly like a regular spin, but when you pop and are at 90 open up your shoulders and bring your legs up. But if you're that close, keep trying and just picture yourself doing a rodeo like you see the pros doing it and eventually you'll get it. No advice is going to help you half as much as practice, practice, practice.

A flat 3 is just a backflip japan, giving the backflip that rodeo axis look. Throw that backflip Japan with a little more spin, spot behind you at 180, and it shud come around 5. I like japan and mute grabs in rodeos.

Nonononononononononononononono absolutely not. A flat 3 is NOT a whackflip.

What ^ said will work for some people, but for OP it won't. Seriously think of it as nothing at all related to a backflip. Try and set it as flat as possible and you'll get it.

be more patient and spin more. Maybe try it with a mute thats how I got mine figured kinda....

im assuming you spin left natural, so throw your right shoulder down to your left knee and that should help set the rotation

From Ask Turpin Trick Cult

Ya know rodeo is one of the toughest tricks to teach. Its a lot like the misty. A lot of kids mix up Flat spin (ski rotates like this in a circle = flat ) and Rodeo (ski rotates like this in a circle ll vertically with your back down ). So making sure you know the trick well enough helps allot.

1st talk to whom ever at your hill and ask them to make you a TABLETOP jump not a step down. step-down bad for learning tricks to much impact. about 30 feet with a 60 foot landing. double you table length is perfect for learning tables. and a nice rolling knuckle , nothing sharp.

ASK YOUR PARENTS IF THIS IS OK FIRST AND PULL YOU BED AWAY FROM THE WALL, MAKE SURE IT WONT SLIDE

Rodeo is all about diving forward from the jump and rolling onto your back.

stand at the foot of your bed. (Not beside like the misty)

dive and spin onto your bed as if your going to lay down on your back with your head on the pillow. try it with a japan once you get it good. the japan helps pull in that side of your body and pull the trick around.

once your laying on your back looking at the ceiling, wiggle to the top of the bed. look over your shoulder and you should see the floor aka landing

now pull your feet over to the floor and you should be facing back to the foot of the bed.

now i know you where asking how to get the guts. do this many times and visualize your self in the third person, first person, follow cam guy whatever it takes. till you see your self doing it and when you do get the ballz to try remember CCCR

You are totally setting that wrong if you are going for a rodeo. Currently you are turning 90, flipping over your LEFT shoulder, then turning 90 again (pretty damn textbook underflip, props). However, assuming you naturally spin to the left, a rodeo is a flip over the RIGHT shoulder. Try doing some lincolns over your right shoulder to get the feel for setting the flip in that direction and eventually evolve that rotation into a rodeo. It's a pretty natural trick and shouldn't be too tough to master once you get a feel for it.

wait is that after you set your flatspin or do tha off the lip. If its off the lip your thinking of a misty cause you through rodeos back.

its off the lip but is not a misty. Because once you throw your right shoulder across your body to your left knee, the rest of your body and legs will swing around your body

normally I don't say things like this and would just give you advice, but this really deserves a Search Bar.  there have been like 4 threads with this exact title in the past 3 weeks.  Tons of good information out there and you dont have to wait for people to respond.

Set for flat three, imagine planting your feet on a wall while being horizontal to it, once you've figured out how to get flat try pushing your toes at something behind you. I don't k ow if you can imagine what I mean but hope it helps

While that might look a bit like a flatspin, it's not a real flat 3. The best flat 3 I've ever seen is Andy Mahre's in the first park segment in IDEA.

the best way to think of a rodeo is...
If you were to pretend you were a snowboarder(ew), A rodeo would be the exact oposite of a misty. Rodeo is basically a flatspin inverted. You throw your back down the hill and bring your feet over.

I think of it as throwing my feet around and over my left shoulder.  grab japan with your right hand and open up your left shoulder and arm while always looking over your left shoulder.  seems to work for me they just come around.

like i said, its a fairly fine line, a flat 5 is not an invert. Once a flatspin goes inverted it is then considered a rodeo. which is why its good to have rodeos certified for comps because if you throw flat and go inverted youll get disqualified.

turn you shoulders 45 degrees and backflip. dont drop your shoulder but flip back with them turned and it will come around

is it easier to rodeo with a grab than without? I dont want to learn a trick having to grab really

If you're having trouble getting the rotation around then try grabbing japan. Try no grab first because it's usually easier for most people

problem spotted in your video, the way i have seen them if you spin left you drive your right shoulder down, so essentially spin left flip right but the way you are doing it you are flipping left spinning left give it a try
