Good stretches before skiing?

I would just google this, but the skiing we do is likely not going to have a list of proper stretches for spinning and landing.

Can someone just post names of good stretches and then I can google those?

Just get loose man. Hamstrings, calves, groin, neck, shoulders, whatever else you feel takes a beating.

Hamstrings are usually the most important. Do them the night before, and maybe some leg swings on the mountain. (Im naturally not flexy, so stretch like crazy).

A lot of people also do quad stretches. Another one to focus on is your Hip Flexor muscle. Lunges help heaps to keep these loose. Pulling a Hip Flexor sucks balls.

Its not all about stretching though man. Warming up is just as important, so is regular exercise.

I normally do hips, hamstrings, calves, quads, neck, back, and some core stuff. Just google good stretches for all of those and you should be good to go!

The best stretches are NO stretches. Idk who spread this silly rumor, but stretching before you do sports is a complete waste of time and sometimes even counterproductive/dangerous. The only thing you have to do is to get warmed up...like running up the slope for a minute or so.

If you strech before sports, your body will try to compensate the strech and muscles will tighten up, creating a higher basic tension. If you, later that day, have an accident, muscles will be more likely to get damaged.

100% true, there's tons of research as well.

dynamic stretching is the only thing you could do. and thats like high knees, windmills (dont overdue it), etc.
even those ^ don't over do it

Dont know about the other guys,  but I didnt mean right before skiing. I meant the night/day before. Light jogging before skiing loosens you up enough

only stretching you should do before, after skiing then you should stretch out everything otherwise you are just opening up for injury

I ride my road bike to the hill when the snow's off the road.  Feels so good to be fully warmed up before shredding.

Unless you have done a warmup before it's not advised to do static stretches before a work out as it creates micro-tears in your muscles that when the blood flow gets into them can get bigger. However if you go for a small run or something before your ski it increases blood flow to your muscles increasing your flexibility and reducing the risk of injury.

Ok so dynamic stretching is basically just bouncing smoothly in your stretches and going farther each time? I do that anyway but I had no idea that normal stretching before activity was bad, doing it that way just felt like it got me looser. Surely stretching normally is better than not stretching at all?

noo dont bounce in your stretches ever (atleast thats what i hear). a dynamic stretch is sort of like a moving stretch, such as windmills with your arms, a lunge then twist twist, swinging your leg forward then back and catching it and holding that stretch. kinda hard to describe.... and after skiing when you stretch dont bounce either, hold the stretches for about 30 seconds then move on. havnt you learned anything in gym class?

Yeah usually i take a warm up lap where i don't really hit anything sketchy but go fast enough to be breathing heavy. But don't static stretch before, especially if you're already in the cold.

sit on the chairlift. Throw your legs up and hold your skis up like throwing a huge truck driver. That stretches your legs right the fuk out

Warm up before skiing so your muscles aren't cold. Stretch after skiing to help reduce lactic acid in the muscles and cut down on muscle soreness.

Every single goalie in the NHL stretches before a game during warm ups. I wonder why, if its a known fact that stretching before physical activity is bad, why are these goalies stretching almost every muscle before a game?

A common misconception on stretching is what to do and when to do it.

Static stretching (when you are not moving) is good to do AFTER physical activity. A dynamic stretch (stretching while moving) should be done before physical activity. An example of a static stretch is touching your toes and an example of a dynamic stretch would be high-knees or lunges.
