Dyeing Bindings

wouldnt recommend...bindings is one thing not really to be fucked with...but theoretically...dye them on a low temp allow a very gradual cool down process, shouldnt really be effected much. however note plastic will be weakened to some degree no matter how you do it if they are dyed

Why didn't you buy black bindings to begin with ?

Go for it. Personally I think it'll work fine. I cant see how the water/ dye would damage them. Just use hot tap water and let em soak for a long time. Make sure to rinse them out really good after and lube up all the parts. I wouldnt do the stovetop method because that much heat could damage them, but if you do keep it moving at all times and a very very low flame. (turn it on and off just to keep the water warm)

I would suggest using an extra packet of RIT dye so it does it faster and you dont have to leave them in there as long. 3 would probably do it.

Take the heelpiece off the track first, and then dye just the track, that's probably the least likely to get fucked up since it has no springs or anything, and it will give you an accurate reading of what the color will look like. PM me if you have any questions regarding dyeing and such.

If you do this post pics when you are done so we can see the finished product, and make sure to get them torque tested at your shop afterward to make sure they are still good. Good luck, but if they ARE fucked up don't be mad at me. I've never dyed bindings so I don't know any of this for sure.

wouldnt it dye the din windows? sounds like bad news bears

you could always put tape over them, unless the water/dye mix gets inside that area and dyes it from the backside, not sure if it would or not.

don't bother, its a quick way to void your warranty.

Go for it. Think about it, you bindings get wet all the time, there shouldn't be any damage. This topic has come up before. Just rinse them real good after, and don't use water that is too hot. And the din window is a different type of plastic that is not very porous, so it shouldn't dye or dye very much. Plus it is clear, so even if it does dye, it will still be see through just with a shade of whatever color you do. I would suggest doing something other than black though, you could have just purchased black bindings. Do a color that will really stand out.

I would highly suggest you do NOT dye them. If you buy dye in packets odd are you need boiling water to melt the dye crystals, even then you need to add salt to melt those little fuckers aka increase the boiling point of water in turn really hot water. High temps would=high pressure in your toe and heel piece that could A) completely fuck them. Im talking like OG Mudbone ladies and gentalmen, complete destruction and going to a plastic surgeon wont help. Its funny cause the plastic would need surgery cause its broken. ha its funny, double meaning. ANWAYS. B)  blow off the cute little plastic window on the toe piece C) just have so much pressure they explode like Thalls ankles, just for the exageration; like a nuke going off. You definitely also run the risk of melting the plastic. By melting the plastic those helpful little holes you put screws in would lose their thread or just not exist anymore. In short, don't do it.

Roden you dumb. He can use the liquid rit dye first off. And he doesn't have to use boiling water, I used hot tap water to dye my ski boots. And what is this talk of little holes with threads? Like Where the hole is to screw the binding into the ski? That's not a thread dawg, its just a sliver of plastic, serves no purpose other than holding the screws slightly in place before the binding is mounted so you don't lose them.

Im talking about the mounting holes. And I've dyed boots to lax heads. Just advising something is bound to happen from my experience.

You could probably cold-dye them if you could find a suitable dye. My friend has 1 pale yellow Jester after his skis spent 6 hours in a puddle of energy drink (long, boring story), so they'll definitely take a colour.
