Lost All Respect for Warren Miller

So, I wrote this to express my utter disbelief regarding Warren Miller's new movie, Wintervention, and to see if anyone else feels the same way.

I went to the movie on opening night, expecting to see an epic movie by Warren Miller, getting me more excited for the ski season (6 days). Wrong. It was one long fucking infomercial.


The whole movie was simply segments pitching different products. How great K2 is. How great these resorts in Colorado is, because they produce the best snowboarders (without ever showing any tricks by them). And to top it off, 90% of the film was overlaid with a monotone narrator who would not shut up if a gun was pointed to his head.

While all moviegoers were given a free Canyons day pass for going, it was not enough for killing my friday night.

I payed $20 to watch an infomercial, which is why I have lost all respect for Warren Miller.


Anyone else feel the same way?

Ignorant much? Please do some research before making something like this. Its not warren miller, its Warren Miller Entertainment. Warren miller wanted out and is done with WME.

Warren sold the company around 2000 and WME is a big corporate shit head company,
Warren is still the man (in a good way, WME is the man in a bad way)

I was referring to Warren Miller Entertainment, just forgot the Entertainment part. Didn't know it would change the whole message of it though

Before you go loosing respect for Mr. Miller, you should know that he sold that company years ago and has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with it, and even got sued by them last year. The company and their movies have taken a completely different direction since being sold by Warren, including TONS of advertising and buying almost half the movie from various production companies (in fact, all of the footage of park/urban skiing is shot by Poor Boyz Productions). Warren Miller is a great man and is the reason ski movies are what they are today, so don't loose any respect for him, but Warren Miller Entertainment is quite possibly the worst thing for the sport right now.

Okay all, that was a failure in my literacy. I had not noticed that it was in fact Warren Miller Entertainment.

So then, I guess this thread is now about how awful WME is.

the worst part is that because of Warren Miller those movies are insanely famous, and it's all everybody talks about who isn't super in to skiing. Such a bad rep for skiing in general.

If anyone would like to go back to the origninal home page post on this site. I did in fact say "fuck warren miller entertainment" for this god dam reason.


Now i can't wait to go to the premiere in reno with a huge ass flag that on one side reads "fuck you WME" and on the back reads "if you can't see....i don't care."

I, too, was pissed off. Last year was great for me (saw Dynasty in Hartford, CT). Not only was the movie great, but with the $20 ticket I got a day ticket to both Stratton and Ski Sundown ($100 value for the lot, which I used).

This year, I paid $28 (friggin convenience fee, theater's fault not WME but still), got nothing but BOGO coupons, and to top it all off, the entire movie was selling products to me. IDK if your premiere was like mine, but Canon was also an obvious promo (they had them to play with during intermission).
Sure, the WME movies haven't been as good since WMHimself left, but I could not stand:

1. The narrator had a bad voice, reminded me of Luke Wilson of all people :P
2. The idea of "Wintervention" and the radio thing was just plain stupid. Storyline not needed, thx. I love snow as much as the next guy, but the presentation was bad.
3. Obvious product placement was obvious
4. The skiiers in the movie were less relatable than ever. Seriously, I'm not skiing Antarctica EVER

Shape up, WME.

WME sucks so badly now. I dont think i have watched a WME movie in the past 5 years. Never hear anything good about them

I feel sorry for Warren Miller having his name slapped on a once good company gone bad.

Hence why Warren Miller (person) teamed up with Level 1.  He saw a new crew who were formed under the same mutual love for the sport as he himself started with all those years ago, but who are relevant to current ski culture. Warren Miller Entertainment (company) are still stuck in the year 2000 when Warren Miller (person) left.  The have nothing new or exciting to show and just can't keep up with the quickly evolving nature of our sport. For freestyle skiing, 10 years is a long time.  In fact, 10 years is more than half of the history of freestyle skiing as we know it.

...This is why WME sued Warren Miller. They're jealous and scared that some small upstart crew of baggy clothes-wearing hooligans can outdo their 60+ year pedigree of film making.

There are very few people in this world I have more respect for than Warren Miller.  Just taking one run with him would be a dream come true.  He is truly an everlasting icon of our sport.

Oh well, if I can't ride with him this year, I guess I'll just be one year older when I do.

THIS. This morning my brother was watching a Warren Miller film and all I saw was NATURE VALLEY. It was all over the place. GIANT bars. Huge Billboards. HUGE ADVERTISING. It was so obvious.

The movie was soooo bad.  I only went for the lift ticket vouchers.  I left at intermission it was that terrible.  Look at the clientele that goes to wme, which is far different from the other production companies loyal fans.  I mean I knew I was in for it when an old woman with a walker couldn't get up the front steps to the venue.

Warren miller is the reason i got so into skiing so heavily, Endless Winter basically messed up my life, Thanks Warren, Warren might be the best thing to happen to skiing

Warren Miller Enterainment is on the other the worst thing to ever happen to skiing, they havent made a decent movie in 7ish years

I always found wme to be excessively advertising. You'd get the narrator saying stuff like "but up in the hills, that fluffy white stuff we all know and love as snow was falling. Early the next morning we hopped in our Jeep Wrangler (zooms in on jeep logo) munched on some nature valley bars (shows wrapper) and headed off into the storm for some skiing."

its a shame what the company bearing his name has become. Hopefully someday someone with a good skiing background will be in a position to take over them, and restore their roots. Though unfortunately it might be too late...

everyone who posted in this thread tearing the op apart for dissing warren miller is a fucking retard.  stop trying to find reasons to prove you know more about the ski industry than he does.  he was talking about WME, you all just jumped to stupid conclusion.

I have a question about WME: Since everything about it is a marketing gimmick with product placement, do ski areas pay WME to be featured in the film?  Products this year included: Nature Valley, Kastle, Corona (hard core), the list goes on. I am wondering if ski resorts have the same deal as product manufacturers?

Wintervention featured Vail, Heavenly, Breck, Keystone, etc. Can you say CO epic pass? Obviously all of these resorts are tied together. Did they pay to be featured in the film?

This is also interesting because (in CO anyway), these resorts compete directly with one of the main sponsors (intrawest).

Any thoughts or intel as to how this works??
