What pro snowboarders wear helmets outside contests?

dont you get slammed harder on a board when you fall compared to skis?

anyways i dont want to knock on people who wear them,

but i think people who dont need them,(vanular, delorme, who?,  favre, gagnier, rougier, bertoni, rolland, candide, auclair, and all of level 1)   deserve some respect.  They dont deserve to be called stupid.   Some people just have it,  and wearing a helmet isnt necessary for them.

and another reason....   I wouldnt watch a skateboard movie where everyone was wearing a helmet and hockey pads... that would just be stupid.  The added risk does add to the sickness of whatever is being done.  Watch high five and maybe youll start to get the idea of it.

nah, i disagree, i would mind watching a skate movie if they had helmets and did banger tricks, i always wear a helmet, its not kool not to wear one,

The funniest thing is at the shop that I work at we have a movie by sandbox (a helmet company). Not a single one of the riders on the cover are waering helmets.

to the op you can't really say "don't need to wear on" i think everyone should wear one no matter how good they r. they are obviously falling and its just smarter to be safe

Oh yeah, not wearing a helmet is so EXTREME! Helmets are a very good idea. Yes some people don't wear them, but I wouldn't say those people don't need them. As for the skater comment, how many vids have you seen were kids get messed up from not wearing a helmet? Yeah, a lot.

The only snowboarder that I can think of off the top of my head is jed anderson. I remember in an interview he wears one because "once you fall, you're fucked. Your board makes you SLAM into the ground. I used to get concussions all the time and throw up everywhere, so then I started wearing a helmet"
Not a direct quote, but that was the jist of his reasoning.

I don't get why more people wear helmets. They're just liek seatbelts, why not?

I think people who don't wear helmets are complete idiots.  They look just as good with or without helmet, so why not take the extra safety?  That being said, I am 100% opposed to any sort of helmet requirements.  The government/ski resorts should not have any power to limit a person's right to liberty.

Pat Milbs always wears one, off the top of my head.

Actually, I think you guys would be surprised, most pros that i know of wear one unless they are filming. I assume it's that way for a lot of skiers too.

And basically all the local Ams I know of wear one.

I physically cant wear a helmet. If I do I get a wicked headache which sometimes makes me pass out. I have had them fitted at the shop tried extra padding, less padding, a lighter helmet, wearing a beanie underneath I even went to a doctor and they couldn't figure it out. So I just ride without one, after riding without a helmet you learn new ways to bail and its all good I have never hit my head once even on big bails.

Dunno bout you but I'd rather not have to learn to everything I know how to do now from scratch because I was a douche and didn't wear a helmet.

jesse burtner always wears one. thats why his company is called think thank, he smashed his head on some stairs back in the day and was in the hospital for a while. hes always thinking to be thankful.

no one doesn't need a helmet ever even for little rail sessions there is still a chance to fall and i am a great example of this because everytime i have hit my head while skiing it has been on an smaller than normal early season rail and for some reason i didn't think i needed a helmet because i feel comfortable with my ability to slide rails esp smaller ones but sunday at Mount Snow i ended up with 6 staples and not my head hurts if i had one i wouldv kept skiing that day

haha all you little punks think you are soo good its retarded. there are skiers that have enough air sense that they never fall, and if they do they arent shrimps and they are strong enough to protect themselves. Vanular and thovex and alot of other people NEVER wear helmets. all you scared kids want to think your just as badass but your not. People like vanular are a different species from you. they are so much better than you you cant even fathom it. Some people are in more control if what there doing than you can dream of. you kids think wiping out is cool haha... your such losers,,, if you wipe alot you should prolly go race or find a new sport. sking is being taken over by such a loser crowd. "dude not wearing a helmet is for retards." again i have nothing against wearing helmets but show some respect to people who dont fall. They ARE better than you if they are killing it year after year without hurting themselves.

i used to agree with you. but kids were wearing them in the l1p film this year and i didn't blink. which means that i must subconsciously be thinking that if the trick is good enough, then who gives a shit if the skier is wearing a helmet. good for them for thinking ahead, in case something unforeseen goes wrong. if they land their trick, then even better.

seeing someone wear an ugly helmet like a giro 9 and hitting a handrail with a ride on jump is kinda frustrating, yes. but if the trick is legit enough and the skier is legit enough, why should it still bother you?

this is like saying race car drivers shouldn't wear safety harnesses because it takes away the inherit danger of racing. skiing at a high level is dangerous with or without a helmet, vanular and candide have both been seriously injured more than once. no one is invincible. not wearing a helmet because you want to make skiing more dangerous is silly. concussions don't make you a better rider.

IDK, I read something like that somewhere, and it's mostly true. There is no skier/boarder who absolutely has no need of a helmet. Everyone who is progressing themselves is going to fall hard at some point.

C-Van tore both ACL's in back to back seasons, but you're right... he NEVER falls, and especially never falls hard.

Progression means you're gonna spill occasionally and a helmet means you're gonna be a little bit safer when you do.

this being said... I would like to kindly suggest that you SHUT THE FUCK UP!

That crash was WELL funny.

I wear a helmet when I hit big stuff or go upside down. I do have a tiny bit more respect for the people that don't though cos it is just gnarlier, arguing for wearing a helmet is like saying "why hit the drop drop rail when you could do the one in the middle of the set, its safer."
I wear one cos I fall a lot, often on my head so I'd rather loose those cool points than get hurt over what other people think. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

yeah,    i    mean i   look at it this way...

If im just out skiing for fun, not pushing my self,  just out to ride,  theres no fucking way i would bring a big heavy helmet just to cruise and have fun.

Some skiers are good enough that they head out to have fun  and not push themselves,  while not pushing themselves they throw in some sw 10s  630 ons,,    just playing around and doing it for fun.

I consider that type of skier better than those who foam pits their tricks first (all the kids these days) and then puts on a helmet and is all serious about training in the park and pushing the limits and taking huge spills while learning new tricks.

Its like the 2 types of pro skaters,   the ones who just do it, and  the ones who fall 20 times screaming and yellin untill they finallly land the trick.

I think there are some skiers,    just like there are some skateboarders,   who can just do it first time,  and i think they deserve more respect for that.

Im stoked on this weather your serious or not. Tom is setting a good example for the many kids who follow him, promoting safety wether you believe in it or not is very important especially when you have influence like tom does. Think about it, if a kid who was a huge fan of yours died or suffered a serious brain injury from head trauma and you didn't wear helmets you would feel terrible.

90% of the non-helmters you mention are french, french-canadian or are affiliated with some aspect of frenchness. this could be attributed to the lack of helmet use, just my observation.
