Welcome pre-season, but don't stay too long.
It's an anxious time when the air becomes crisp, night time isn't around 9 anymore, and swimming is for the strong or for men who feel the need of proving something to his buddies. Summer has said a short (and terrible hello) this summer, heated the beaches and warmed the rivers and lakes, then said good bye.
It's now fall time; a hoodie in the morning going to school then tearing it off by the end (unless you choose to wear white and wanna 'keep it fresh' for the day, cheah). Teasers are popping up around skiing websites, buyers guides are on the shelves, and thoughts of what gear you’re decking yourself out in for the season will be are all happening. Arenas are pushing snow out their doors making it a good time to rock an even taller tall tee, shout out some “Uhhhh sons,” “jeeeaaaaaaahhhhh,” and maybe even a lil “Yeeeeeee dawg,” while keepin’ it hyphy.
Clicking in for the first time before the season kicks off is a feeling describable by so many words. I’ll sum up the feelings I get when I hear that snap of the bindings for the first time this season; excitement, a rush of ski memories, butterflies wondering how the first hit will go. It’s go time!
Jibbing season is a taste of what’s to come but still can help satisfy the jitters built up all summer long. It’s a good stress release and a great time to get your stoke on preparing yourself for a hungry season knocking off goals made during the warm summer days. Warm ups may not be an option in your mind but dancing on the rail is! Working on getting your steeze down and coming out switch could be a great goal to shoot for, just as long as you enjoy what you doing. Having fun with your homies getting amped to ski brings back the warm goodness (like grandma’s freshly baked cookies) skiing shows to me that can get lost when my mind is focusing on the competition or the trick that needs to be checked off the goals list. A place you leave where the memories now cover it like a sheet, a place where you wore smiles once your body gave into fatigue.
Pre-season is not all THAT bad..it sucks, but we got movies to watch and get a ski high off of. Jibs and arena snow if you want to go burn off that skiing high. Gear we can drool over, anxiously awaiting to show off the suit we’ve picked to stand out differently from the crowds. We are close. Watch another ski movie cause it’s just a matter of time...
Enjoy your season***
