its human nature to eat meat. its what we are made to do. other than for some kind of diet i see no reason to go vegetarian or vegan.

Not a hippy, but after one trip I think hunting is at the same time the most boring and the sickest "hobby" someone can have. On the other hand, the taste of brought down moose compared to some hellhole overprocessed cow... Out of this world.

and I have my doubts about how widely used some of these methods are. if a slaughterhouse is expected to churn out tons of meat a day, it doesn't seem efficient to spend the time catching a pig, dangle it upside down, risk a hoof in the face to cut its throat and wait 5 mins for it to bleed out. we'd starve if all slaughterhouses did that

I went hunting and found it boring as piss. Sitting in a tree or next to a tree for hours... wet, cold only to see an animal and scare the damn thing away breaking a branch trying to move my fat ass into a position to shoot.

But elk, caribou, moose, and deer.... if you went vegan WITHOUT trying those.... you are a sorry and sad person.

Okay, but get this:

ever get a postal package, let's say skis, that were in less than perfect condition? The package was crumpled, there was little to no foam inside and your skis were full of dents and small fractures. That's because a lot of UPS etc. workers don't give a shit what they're delivering, it's just a job to pay the bills, so fu k you and your package.

Now imagine that "package" to be a living creature. Instead of a single DING on the head with a nail gun/anesthetic before going to La-La Land and ending up on your plate, this animal is kicked, punched, thrown, hit with shovels, rakes...before being slowly dipped into burning hot lye to sear off all feathers/hair while still conscious, then having it's throat ripped open and listening to it squeal...in this instance, like a pig, yeah.

What I'm going for here is that even though these creatures are born and raised just to end up as our nutrition, it doesn't mean that they aren't alive in the mean time and should be treated like living being, not just meat.

You bastard I was going to post that same thing.  Found it on stumble the other day.  Check out the documentary Food Inc.  I'm not an expert in the topic but it seems the problem is fundamental/structural and very monopolistic.    Seriously check out Food Inc. though, it's pretty good.
