$1 grand or less, winter car

Decided selling my car was a bad idea for college so now I am going to buy a POS beater to ferry me to the ski hill.  Needs to be 1k or less.  So far I have been looking at a 97~ish AWD minivan and 92-95 legacy's.  I am not getting a jeep or really any SUV, the gas mileage is way too shitty.  The minivan I can sleep in comfortably, bake, and haul.  I am leaning towards that, it's just that they are few and far between.

Thoughts?  Better ideas?

Criteria is:
1. Cheap
2. AWD/4WD
3. Good MPG

find an old audi with quattro- any model as long as it has quattro- you can go to the hill - and then drive up it








plus you can pretend you have a real quattro - the greatest rally car of all time

don't attempt to take a paved corner at speed unless you want audi understeer. and that hummer video is not accurate.

yeah considering hes asking for a 1000 dollar beater- im pretty sure hes not going to be trying for apex's anytime soon

how about your honda- torque steer ftw!

and btw- all you need to correct understeer in any Audi equipped with quattro is a stasis diff- which costs 350 new and 1 hour of install time from a mechanic
