I am fairly sure this is a repost, so if somebody could pm me the thread, that would be great too. 5MB is a very, very small size for photos.

Why? It's super easy to resize photos, and there is absolutely no reason to be uploading something that large to view on a website anyway. 1MB is more than enough the vast majority of the time when it comes to viewing photos on the web.

Yeah, you can resize photos to be smaller than 1 mb and have decent quality. like 95% of all the stuff on my flickr is resized to be around 1mb and they look fine.

Kinda both, in actual size and quality. Lowering quality doesn't mean make a sharp image blurry and pixelated. First of all, any digi cam today is gonna return a physically huge image, there's no reason for a 3000px wide image. You can reduce it to something more reasonable like 600 if that is what ns displays. If you reduce in photoshop then use bicubic sharper, that usually helps a bit. I save as optimized, highest file size, which isn't much anyway. Also the resolution can be reduced. I don't really know what digi cams shoot, but people always say all you need for viewing on screen is 72.

you don't need a fucking 5mb picture to display on ns.
stop being lazy and learn how to resize. if your photo is good enough that people will want to view the full res version of it then host it externally and put a link on your smaller version.
