Ski instructor courses in the USA perhaps

trying to sort my life out at the moment and was looking to do a ski instructor course in the US, maybe N* if that's possible

done a bit of research but seeing if anyone on here has any experience with courses gaining qualifications and how they set you up for a job later

looking at going for the 11/12 season, just need to plan ahead cause i'm heading out from the UK

so who has done an instructor course?
what qualifications did you get?
which course did you go on?
how long for?
how much was it?
etc...

not sure how it works on the international front but i worked at mammoth mountain this year where i got my PSIA Level 1 certification.

All the training for the exam (which is brief and simple if you're a remotely decent skier) was free, but the exam itself is like 270 USD dollars for the three days.

Pays for itself pretty quickly - in my case I immediately earned a $2 raise/per hour after getting that.

My suggestion: See if you can get an entry-level instruction job somewhere in the U.S. and get them to train you for free, and see if you're still keen to take the exam.

i was previously looking at nonstopski in canada which went at 11k which is way out of my budget

i will probably be doing what you and my brother suggested and trying to find a good resort to do that at

Have you looked into getting BASI Level 1? With all the stuff it would end up around 500 pounds for 5 days training plus exam. This means you're qualified to teach snowdomes and artificial slopes. However, this should generally be enough to get you a job in Japan teaching on the mountain. It may also be enough to get you a job teaching in the states. Then when in the states you could perhaps see if you can get your PSIA qualifications. Probably be a lot cheaper than the nonstop stuff.

I would send an email to PSIA to see how high they regard a BASI Level 1 qualification.
