How do much get up and go do ya think you're bike would have with someone say sub 150 lbs?? I'm sure I'll be getting something to replace my 250 ninja in the next few years, not sure if I wanna take it easy and get a 500 or just step up to a 600.

a whole lot man. how much do you weigh? i'm 185 and a 600cc sportbike is honestly fast as fuck. It's totally up to you, i'm sure if you've mastered riding a 250 you'll be fine on a 600.

is the end goal to get a 600? if so just go right for it since you've put in the time on a 250. 600's are very fast but most people i know progressed from a 250 to 600 and all found it to be a smooth transition.

end goal is definitely a 600. I started on an 80s 750 but that didn't end well. Yeah I've been riding the 250 since about 06. Tipping the scales at about 140 soaking wet haha, maybe I can put some weights on the front :/

you'd be fine, the kid i usually ride with is about 130, no joke. he started on a kawi ninja 250 and upgraded to a suzuki gsxr 600 (same as mine) not too long after. he ripsss and handles it fine. To be honest, the MotoGP guys, the pro racers...they're all very lightweight and they right 800s and 1000s.

You wouldn't need weights or anything, my recommendation would be to take it into a shop and have the shocks adjusted to your body weight, that makes a big difference. any questions at all though, feel free to PM me, always happy to help ya out

I was told its a little much for a first bike, however the same person told me that if you step down to a 250 then youll get bored in two weeks. so he said go with 600 and be super carefull. Im a very good driver on pretty much everything so i thing i could handle it. Im saying all this cause im in the market for a cbr in the summer.

true. valentino rossi only weighs like 150lbs and he handles that thing like a surgeon with a scalpel

obviously theres a huge talent gap between him and novice riders but the biggest thing is being comfortable with a bike and knowing your limits..having the 250 for a couple of years handling a 600 will be no big shock once you get use to the added weight/power

my first bike is a 600. i took the rider's ed course and that's how i learned to ride and also how i got licensed. that is the only way i would ever consider telling somebody a 600 could be appropriate. i've still to this day never gotten a ticket for driving or riding and just like you i'm very careful and cautious.

it's all about being responsible...my bike can hit 160+ but that doesn't mean i'm stupid enough to do it.

As someone who has been riding a 250 for about 4-5 years now I'd like to say it still isn't boring.

Granted it might not do wicked wheelies or go 150 mph, but it sure is fast enough to be fun in the winding backroads.

If it's you're very first motorcycle I'd advise maybe not going for a 600, but if you're careful you might be OK.

But yeah like you said I live in PA and they have a riders safety course and after you pass the course you get your license and I will be doing that, its free also so I'd encourage people looking into first bikes to look around for these programs.

I'm not going to lie I can be a VERY aggressive driver, but that will only come out from time to time because I am also a very defensive driver, I'm always tracking what everyone else is doing on the road and predicting their actions. I also never do anything without knowing the limits of the vehicle, I wouldn't dare do anything aggressive if I was unsure of my ability or the limits of the vehicle. I hate it when people think they are great drivers cause they drive fast and take risks and do things they and their car are uncomfortable with, it just means your lucky.

1976 Harley Davidson Electra Glide with suicide shift and over the top beach bars, lowered with straight pipes. It's not fast, but I can pull into a parking garage, rev it once and set off every car alarm.

an acquaintance of mine just built up a hardtail 78 cb650 with a 21 over springer, pull back bars that are maybe 10" wide at most, mid controls, a purple coffin tank with a mural comprised mostly of tits on the top, and the most over exaggerated king/queen seat witha 7' tall upholstered sissy bar made of wrought iron.. its ridiculous, but he doesn't have pictures of it up anywhere, and the only one I have was taken at night without flash on my phone. it simultaneously qualifies as the most hideous and most awesome bike I've ever seen.

Nice. Both my mom and my dad had suzukis. Neither are as fast as that though, they got more adventure touring type bikes. My dad's is a 650 V-twin (I think it's called a vstrom). Super fun to ride though. My mom used to have a little naked 500 single, it was small to begin with and lowered so I couldn't really ride it for long. Now she has a bmw though.

I really want a bike, just no cash. Anyways first I gotta get a 2 stroke 125 and a sled

I'm tossing around the idea of getting an sv650 right now. Just trying to decide if I want to spend the money. But damn they are sweet, and very underrated.

Did you ride dirtbikes when you were a kid? how old are you? what 600? There are 600's that are great starter bikes, and 600's that will kick the shit out of you.

Don't let your ego choose your first bike. The first (street) bike I rode was a 600, the first bike my dad owned was a 50. You will learn to ride faster if you buy a 250 and ride it for a summer and then upgrade later, but if you can get a sweet deal on a 600 right now, I would go for it. You can still learn to ride on a 600, it will just take you longer to learn good technique and things can go wrong a lot faster. If you have ridden motocross bikes and have driven cars for a few years, then a 600 is totally fine IMO. If you are 16 and are not used to driving in traffic at all, and have never sat on any kind of bike before, then a 600 is probably a bad idea.

i know this has nothing to do with this thread at all, but i bought a red bmw 325i convertible the other day. like, i know its not a motorcycle, but it has no roof, which is sort of like a motorcycle kinda.

its a 92, so an e30 chassis, i know its a piece of shit, it fun as fuck to drive though and it used alot less gas than my truck.

holy shit is that yours? mines still stock but i wanna put it on schmidts and probably a GC coilover setup, then maybe a turbo or a whole engine swap. thats all for the future though, now im just crusing in it.


i love your yellow lights though, i just wish all this BMW stuff wasnt so expensive. i bought mine with a fucked up front end thinking it would be cheap to fix, just needed the front valence and some trim and lights and i priced it all out at like $600, i got lucky and went around to a few junkyards and got the parts for like $60 but if i hadnt been able to do that i woulda been bummed.

No not mine just posting a sick example. I have a pretty clean but stock 1989 325is. Compared to other cars modding is pretty cheap for E30's check out E30tech.com, or R3vlimited.com. Seriously the best car you can buy for the money. Be baler and rock the top down to the mountain with your skis hanging out.

A nice 50cc Scooter.. Hahaa, had that since I was 16, just turned 17, so now under my CBT I can get a 125.. Gonna get a CBR hopefully :) or do my bike test and get a 250 of some sort.. But then I can't ride anything bigger till I'm 21.. unless It's restricted to 33 BHP.

are there street-legal 2 strokes in britain? if so, you can build up a fucking quick two stroke that has 33bhp. a yamaha rd350 has roughly that, and if you tune it properly, and have a nice fd ratio, you'll be accelerating super quick. top end may not be too fast, but it'll be super fun on the country roads.

My scooters a 2 stroke, but I'm not sure about the bigger bikes.. Pretty sure they're street legal as 2 strokes, and that sounds rather expensive to do, and I'm lacking in money, as I've only just started working again, and only at weekends/holidays. I'll investigate further if I do my full bike test! Cheers :)
