I'm registered libertarian count me in...not a chance though 85 percent.  90 percent are brain dead dems who know nothing but how to hate on the right, 5 percent are ignorant republicans who only know how to knock every thing the dems are doing, even though republican leaders have done the same shit....and maybe MAYBE the remaining 5 percent have some scene of individuality relative to the political spectrum when "picking" sides

Libertarianism is awesome...

But it is super diverse.

I'm more of a classical libertarian that also believes that in the "basic human rights" should include protection, education, and health. I'm all for privatization of common needs like roads and what not, but with corporate regulation rather than individual regulation. And the most common business practice would be a co-op.

I'm libertarian to a degree. At the same time I like what the republican party stood for back in the day, it was more along the same lines. Actually even some dems made some solid efforts. That could be more the person though regardless of party affiliation.

I try not to put myself under a particular party. I believe what I do but refuse to vote for people just because they're in the party I'm with.

Well when people look at the problems in free market capitalism, most of the time they look at points where we had nothing close to free market. The government has been interfering hardcore. Free market might not be 100% perfect but it is far better and far more free than what we have now. The government creates bubbles in the market then when they burst, they print out money and create new bubbles to temporarily "fix" it. Then repeat the process while america goes on oblivious and arguing about the dumbest of shit.


I mean we still have the fucking federal reserve. That's cripple our economy so badly. You can you have a steady economy when your currency is dropping that fast.

Not that I know anything about you, but you seem to be the type of person who blamed the "free markets" for the asset crash and recession in 2008. In fact, the US markets are far from being free. Back in the 19th century, the government rarely, if ever, intervened in the markets and as a result, the US experienced a continued economic boom like no nation has ever seen in history.

I could have judged you wrong though.

i know, and i agree with a lot of that. but let's not kid ourselves, do you think the private sector wasnt/isnt also responsible for creating bubbles, then creating new ones to fix it? this is not just the big bad government impeding your rights..private sector can make you just as not "free" (for lack of a better term) as any government measures.

i'm not saying that's the only thing going on.and none of these things (okay, almost none of these things) we're talking about are absolutes, its extremely subjective. i just dont like the insinuation that a free market would equal "free minds, free people, free ideas" or whatever.
the private sector has a very dark side that rears its ugly head every so often and to deny that would be silly in my opinion. you think the government is the only oppressor here? private sector doesnt give two shits about you, me, or freedom of people and ideas, it cares about the bottom line and i would never deny that this doesnt lead to progress but it has very many obvious negative sides

libertarianism is a school of thought that i can totally understand as a logical argument. i just disagree that we are better off playing every man for himself when we can make so much more progress when we have each other's backs

i am an idealist.

in a free market there is no coercion. you are free to trade, or not to trade. no one, or government entity can make you trade.

free people, and free minds are not possible without a free market. (controversial statement of the day?) i suppose free minds can happen even in the most deplorable of living conditions, but free markets and free people go hand in hand.

the private sectors serves its customers (you and i)

when we purchase their product we are making a decision and effectively saying that our lives will be better by making the trade for that product. (or we wouldnt buy the product, service right?) we dont have to trade. we choose to trade.

Well I mean technically the fed is private anyway. But they pretty much hold the reigns on our economy. If we had booted the fed a long time ago we would be in ridiculously better shape regardless of any smaller issues.

that's really easy to say from your position in society maybe but moral discussion aside, i sure as shit dont want to live in a country where educated and safe people is not a given. your society being educated benefits you too for obvious reasons.

even if i conceded that, what's the logical progression from there? everyone has a fuck everyone else attitude, so let's set our rules up as an every man for himself competition that punishes helping your fellow man and rewards disregarding everyone but yourself? do you think that's the path to progress?

like i said, we can argue all night about our subjective ideas of what is something people should have by virtue of being a human. i think that people deserve safety, basic sustenance, shelter, education.

but even if we push that aside, and i concede for the sake of argument that those aren't rights...do you really want to live in a country that you cant guarantee many of the citizens can read, write, eat, stay alive? you really cant see the neighborhood effect of living in a society that has, at the very least, every person being safe, educated, and fed?

like i said i think youre selfish, but even beyond that, saying that you dont necessarily want people in your own damn country to be educated is painfully myopic

thats what you call someone who works for the benefit of others correct? (seeing no return) and being forced (force is key)

when you deem something like food, shelter, and the like a right. you call upon others to provide you those things in the event you A choose, or B cant provide them for yourself.

Libertarianism only works with Socialism, which is basically just Anarchy. Libertarianism is a massive fail with Capitalism unless you are dumb enough to believe that corporations wouldn't ass rape the entire world given half a chance. Which you know....obviously they would.

but that's the thing, there DOES exist coercion in a "free market" (i'll stop putting that in quotes from now on, promise).

it's not as if a free market is this wonderful paradise with no bullying, no power differentials, no coercion. if you guys are so afraid of the government being oppressive why arent you concerned with massively powerful companies making important decisions for the country, with their main concern being pleasing shareholders?

i agree to an extent but the Good that you speak of (Good, not goods) that comes out of the private sector's workings is purely instrumental. a seller is more than happy to benefit the society as a whole as long as it also means making them money. but if the production of negative externalities means more profit, they're still down like a clown and it's been shown way too many times

i have "schooled myself on natural rights" (the most subjective fucking topic in the world) thank you very much.

i dont look to the government for shit, i come from a good family in a nice area and ive worked my ass off and done very well in life so far, so the notion of my needing the government to provide me with "everything i want" is horseshit. i just can look at the state of affairs and realize not everybody is as ridiculously lucky as you and me, and we sure as fuck dont live in a situation where how much effort you put in is directly proportionate to how much we have. it's just not true
