Anyone else wear their helmet without pads?

Aight so here's the deal.

Purchased a Smith Holt last season. Love it! However it fits a tad bit high on my head I feel.

I wore it with a beanie and the summer pads last season, but lately I've been messing around without the pads in the helmet and just wearing a beanie.

Fits MUCH better. Looks so much more low-pro and still has a comfy layer of plush in between my dome and the helmet (thanks Neff).

Anyone else do this?

Any expereinces with crashing?

its not that smart but i also do it my holt fits my head weird they need to be deeper imo

I wear my holy with a hat that I made underneath. I haven't spent a day with the pads in it.

I feel fine with it. I mean you're probably more safe wearing it in the way that fits best. The hard foam is what protects you in a fall.

yea i take the pads out, only cause i wear a hat and headphones under, so the pads get in the way

i dont think i have worn the earpads once with my holt.  really cold days i do a beanie and semi cold i wear a hand band and warmer days the goggle strap usually keeps me wark enough. youre right about it being a little shallow but as long as its on your head i think thats all that matters. imo earpads look retarded.  i also took the google holder off the back

I always take my pads out. I just got a Smith Holt Park and it is made to ride with a beanie it doesnt come with earpads and its way lighter than the normal Holt. The maze is made to be able to take the pads out too.

This. A snug fit is what secures the helmet on your head during a fall, and the hard foam is what absorbs the impact with snow/rails/snowboarders etc. You should be fine, I'd think.

yes, when I used to wear my helmet with pads, my helmet pads would force my ears into an odd position folded down and after 8 hours when I took my helmet off my ears would sting and ring for 30 minutes.

The exact same thing happened to me.  It would hurt putting ear buds in on the drive home.

Oh, and I wear my hardhat without pads... Sounds like a retarded idea, I know. I need to get a new helmet soon.

i have the same helmet and i do the same. but watch out after two seasons the plastic on mine isnt attached to the foam so the foam shifts ever so slightly. i need a new helmet

Pretty much answered my question.

Definitly feel the Holt needs to have a deeper fit. With the pads it just sits up too high.

But I was referring to the pads inside the helmet, not the ear pads. That's what a beanie is for. I also wear the strap under the helmet. Gotta love that sloppy steeze.

Holt helmet liner.

My beanie is thicker than that.

The liner doesn't absorb the blow. The foam does.

As long as the shell fits snuggly around you're dome, the liners serve no purpose.

I feel more safe with a hat under my holt than the shitty stock pads. With the pads, the helmet sat high and rattled around, even with the chinstrap snug.

I know I am not a helmet specialist, but are you? I pretty much repeated myself, and restated what the OP posted, but I just wonder what it is that you find so wrong with my approach.

I do, but no through choice. I have one of the Salomon Brigade helmets and the Velcro on the on padding decided to rip off after I took a fall.

I just wear a beanie underneath now...
