Alright, now everyone put down your flaming keyboards and listen to me for a second.
There have been no less than five threads in the past three days trashing racers and it's ridiculous.
Racers are the best damned skiers on the hill, no question about it. Their training allows them to adapt to any conditions almost instantly and they have ten times the balance, agility and air-awareness than the regular schmuck wrecky's on the hill.
Many of the top skiers in the world, regardless of what discipline they specialize in (big mountain, pipe, park etc etc) have some sort of racing background.
The main point of this thread is to ask why everyone is so damn hypocritical when it comes to racers. One second someone is saying that they hate rude and cocky racers...and then they spit out some expletive-enhanced rhetoric about why racers are 'gay and stupid' and they suck and the such.
It's retarded and a waste of time and only serves to further segregate the skiing community.
If you are not mature enough to deal with racers and give them the same respect that everyone is always crying that they don't get themselves, you should just shut the fuck up and get off of the damn hill because no one wants you there.

Yeti- it needed to be said. Of course most 'true' skiers, whatever that means, really know about racing and racers. I think most ppl in here are bashing their (racers) attitudes because of a few bad experiences, then they generalize that bad attitude to all racers, and then it turns to all out contempt for racers...leading to stupid, uninformed posts. I dont mean to jump on the racer-hater-hater bandwagon but it needed to be said. Hopefully the haters will come around.

Werd to that. Ive got my level 1 race coaching (i know not much) but it means Im a racer too. sure, i race like once or twice a year and comp for big air 7 times but yeah, i meet assholes that all they do is freeride too. I think it's important to work on all of the aspects of your skiing b/c being better at any part of skiing will improve everything even if only slightly. Granted, and dont slap me around for this, alot of racers i met are bastards, but also at races ive made friends that i still am riding with 4 years later. Let's have some respect here b/c a sport doesn't define a personality.

Yea racers are really cool, I respect them a lot,
but there are alos the racers that dont know shits about parks and hit our jump and destroy them by absorbing them as if it was a roller and trying to jump on a qauter pie and landing on the other side of it, destroying the vert....
I trully respect any kind of skier, but if they destroy the park, I'll be pissed at them. wheter it is a newschool skier who cant hit a jump correctly, a racer, and all around skier or a young kid. If they do it once, I always go ans ask them politely to stop doing that ( it's my job). Most of the times, young kids listen to me, al around skier listen too, so does the newschool skier the only group that are not listening and continue to destroy our park are the racers....
Once again, I trully respect racers, but if they dont respect me, be sure I wont respect them.
that was not directed to all racers, only to those who thinks they can do what they want anywhere on the mountain without asking anybody else... and thats the same thing for all kind of skiers.

And I used to be a racer ands I still race in some local comps to show the little racers ( who are good friends of mine) that I'm still able to kick theyr ass in a slalom even if I'm not training at all.

i used to race but i stopped because i just didn't like the people that were involved in it. i guess you could say that i still race because i do a few skierx comps every year. like i said before, it's not the racing that give racers a bad name, it's a small percentage of racers that give all racers a bad name.

You guys have to understand that there are A-holes in every sport and facet of life and they are usually the ones that speak up and generalize and therefor give certain things a bad name or rep.
The bottom line is that this whole racer/newschooler argument or whatever is based on nothing but OPINION!!!! It is an argument that will never be settled or won so there is no use getting pissed about it. Besides if someone doesn't realize the skill it takes to master any sport, no matter what it is, then their respect isn't worth anything anyway.

what you do on skis doenst determine what kind of person you are....i've never raced in my life, but i have better air sence than most racers do (probably) and i've never done moguls but i can rup the park better than most mogulers (is mogulers a word???) each individual person brings experience from different sports into their skiing, personally i bring tramp, diving, and nordic ski jumping experience into my skiing. Everyone on here is saying 'racers are the best skiers becuase they can adapt to terrain, blah blah blah', but that's exactly the attitude we're talking about...the cocky racers are the best attitude. i'm sure i'd get schooled by a lot of racers in different terrain, but just becuase you race doesnt mean you're a wicked skier, and just becuase you jib doesnt mean your a wicked skier either....how about everyone just accepts the fact that different people do different things, and are good at whatever they do.
and stop posting these threads...they're so repetitive

Yea really i thought this was a pretty stupid thread though. You writing that is just as bad as anyone making a thread to trash racers. I dont agree with talking shit about racers though but in my experience i have found that there are more cocky asshole bitches in racing then skiing the park although there are assholes in the park(Like the kind that write the threads trashing racers). Someone else in another thread said that racers were such cocky assholes because 'they are trained with that mentality to think they are the best on the hill and thats what it takes to win' so i guess that might be it.. but im not agreeing with anyone trashing racers after all it is all skiing and ive taken a few runs on a nastar course just racing friends and it was a pretty fun time as long as im skiing im happy. But yea enough threads about talking shit on any sport either racing, ski boarding, or snowboarding now too i see.

Pocketrocket...you did a total 180 in your post. First you say that you have better skills than a racer (and you DID say that because air awareness is a skill) then you go on to say that racers are being cocky because they say they have better skills. Wait..didn't you just say that you had better skills than them?
The reason that people say racers are the best skiers on the hill is because they are. No one else comes close to being as techinically refined as a racer...there just isn't any question about it.
Some people (i am looking at you 1080chick) really need to fucking read a post before they get all pissed and start saying that i hate newschoolers. Obviously you don't care to see any other side of the argument other than yours, or else you would've seen that i clearly said it was BAD that there is such a line drawn in the sand between racers and jibbers.
I think that this forum has officially degradded into nothing more than a slightly better controlled freeze copycat.

You know what guys? I'm totally sick of the bashing that has gone on here of late. However, whether you like racers or not, it's an issue of respect and it goes both ways. I can't beleive the people that just think it's okay to come out and say 'I'm ___ type of skier so you should respect me'. I'm sorry but respect is earned and if you go posting shit on this site you're not going to be respected, it's the same on the hill, if you act like a dick then expect to be treated like one. Attitudes in skiing need to be toned down before it blows up in our collective faces.

yeti...i said i have better air sence...which i probably do, seeing as how every activity i've done in the past 12 years has involved me in the air...what i said later was that racers think they have better skills then everyone...and that every skill they have is better, i was just pointing out that sometime other people can have stronger air sence, or better technique...just becuase you race doesnt mean you're the best of everything...it means your good at everything, not the best...that was my point, thank you for thinking i'm the insencitive asshole

andy whole heartedly agrees with this yeti character. ok, racers, are by far better skiers than any newschoolers...the goods one that is. that doesnt mean they are better at jumping...its 2 completely different worlds. so cant we all accept the fact that someone has more skill in something that we dont even do? or is that too hard? being able to turn well, is i think one of the most important things in skiing. i understand the talk of how racers can be cocky, well so can newschoolers... if they are saying shit, ignore it...who cares what someone thinks of what you do...go do it becasue you like it, not because you want other people to like what you do.

personally, iv had som crappy experiences with asshole racers........... im not doubting their skill, but it seems like too many of them think that all there is to skiing is flying down hard snow around some gates. ill appriciate their skiing more if they recognize and accept newschool skiing. i knew that some racers do both, and thats cool, but it seems like too many of em act like little fucks wearing spandex.

racers are the shit...by far the most versitile skiers. i just havn't been seeing so much disrespect towards them. every skier that i know personally would agree that raceing is probably the best thing you can do to become a solid skier. i'm just not seeing where all this hate for racers is coming from.....
