Drafting programs

Anyone have any free drafting programs to make drafts of what you're going to build. My mom wants me to know exactly how much wood I will need for my summer setup so I need a program to draft it in.

seriously. get a piece of paper a pen or pencil and scketch it out, im at school to be an architectural technologist, you dont need a computer program to draw out a floor plan, let alone a plan for a summer setup.

paper drawing, measure out how much wood you need, then multiply x1.5 and you'll be fine....

if you want a real good sketch, and you need to ask for a program, you probably have no experience with stuff like that. In that case Google sketchup is the easiest to learn...

architecture major here, and you absolutely dont need a drafting program for this.

sketch that shit out man, just try to make it somewhat to scale, and just write dimensions next to the pieces of wood in the sketch. ive made about 5 plans this way and you can figure out exactly how many feet of wood you need with simple math.

I would do this normally, but I want my tranny to curve so I am cutting the wood into peices and I figured teh easiest way to figure out how much wood will be required will be to use a drafting program.

Why are you claiming drawing "5" plans by "sketching that shit out somewhat to scale"?

Plans should always be drawn to scale. They're useless otherwise (unless you're in a very preliminary stage of design) and don't contribute to your aptitude as an architecture student.


ANYWHOOO....

to the OP. If you can't figure this out with your brain, a pen and a piece of paper, I would download Sketchup. Not only is it ten times easier to use than any CAD program, but there is an infinite amount of tutorials and how-tos online (youtube is good).
