jack johnson is fucking awesome. i don't really like dave matthews. i have tried to like him because he is so popular but i really only like a few of his songs and even then i don't think they are anything special.

jack johnson all the way man. him and g. love love are so good together!! im going to see them live and acoustic on july 9th i cant wait. dave matthews just sounds like washed up folk music that attracts highschool kids at its best

i have to say i agree with you. dave and tim live at luther college is one of the best albums ever. but g. love is so better than tim reynolds and jack johnson is better then dave matthews i think overall

I love Dave. Jack is way more relaxed and it hard to listen to song after song. Im going to a Dave and Tim Reynolds concert i'm soooo pumped.

He usually plays this as a solo/bridge between dave songs when they play together...he moves his hands so amazingly fast

I dont think this is a great comparison, while they are similar in genre their styles are far different imo.
for the sake of the thread I listen to Jack much more, I like the easy listening relaxed vibes and his creative lyrics

dmb pre-2003ish. everything after busted stuff just sucks. shows from the mid 90's are so much better than anything recently i cant stand it. it used to be a "raw" sound that no other band had. now its a bunch of fucking noise and electronic shit.

i can only listen to jack live
and G love live is fucking awesome

Dave Matthews Band is much more original than Jack Johnson. All of his stuff is very similar while Dave has more than one sound.

there is no doubt jack johnson is superior in every way, especially lyrically. And his skillfulness is far underestimated. I also think his 'vibe' and mentality or just going with the flow is much more enjoyable than daves. but this is just my opinion . . .

I remember the first time I listened to underground hip-hop....


Anyways, Jack's voice is better than Dave's. But Dave Matthews BAND is far superior to Jack Johnson (and his band) - musically, lyrically, performance-wise.

gotta go with DMB because on a musical level, they are way more talented and their music is so much more legit in terms of complexity and general interestingness.

jack johnson loves his bar chords and identical chord progressions. he hits home with the pop music fans and thats why his music is so popular.

DMB actually displays creativity in their music, and that is what sets them apart. their drummer and late saxophone player were mind blowing. and dave matthews is obviously pretty genius too, as he wrote most of the music.

Exactly. Everyone says it, but DMB really is awesome live. Almost every year, there is a new intro/solo/jam session in classics like Two Step or Ants or 41.
