One of baseball's guiltiest pleasures is sneaking in a nap when you're watching weekend baseball on the couch. New York Mets announcer Keith Hernandez apparently shares my belief because he snuck in a self-described "cat nap" during the extra innings of Saturday's 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants.

I can't say that I blame Mr. Mustache for taking some quick shuteye because announcing so many games per year as a member of a great broadcasting team has to get tiring.

Also, I wonder if he and Henry Blanco(notes) got together for a snooze after the latter's walk-off blast. Hank White, after all, is known to enjoy a good nap as much as anyone.

sounders lose 4-0 and the Ms had a 7 game loosing streak. wow. we don't even have a basketball team to suck anymore, damn Oklahoma City

i was raised around baseball and love it to this day

now i cant deny how slow the game may seem to outsiders, but there really is a lot going on all the time

and theres nothing like the atmosphere of a major league ball park

I always thought baseball was boring as shit. And it is, but really only on TV for me. I went to a Reds game last week and that was pretty fun, especially with a walk off homer.

love watchin baseball. the blowouts, to me, are the most boring, otherwise its all good.

but you have it admit, it is by far the biggest grind (note: grind, not physical thrashing like football) of pretty much any sport out there. 162 regular season games. plus lots of spring training. travel days. postseason. winterball, etc etc.

I live close too. A girl I know went to Cooperstown her senior year. She hated it. That's ok because she wasn't a nice person and probably deserved it.

I enjoy playing baseball, fucking boring to watch.

Yes, I hated baseball because of all the thousands of teenagers every year that come and stay in the hotels in my town (like 20 mins away) and think they are the next A-Rod or something.....but then I realize I'm making money of them, so I sit back and smiled......

I never played baseball after 6th grade, got too boring for me.....

I know so many people who went there. It's a friggin breeding ground around here for good players. I stopped because I like my shoulders and at the speed I was throwing I wouldn't have an arm by the time I was 25.

I was brought up playing baseball so I have always loved it as an activity. Especially pitching.

On TV though, it is boring as fuck, unless it is my favorite team. Versus hockey no matter what team is on, can be entertaining.

i was at that game probably the first good reds game in awhile. but i agree with all you that think its boring. Ive played since i was four and still play now in college. The best part is bullshitting in the bullpen or only when your in the game for the most part.

that's partly true but also don't forget that the uniforms aren't designed to flaunt physique. the majority of players are actually pretty damn fit.

baseball would be a lot better if they made the pitchers hurry up, theres a lot of sick plays in each game but you have to wait forever to see them

I use to play, really young. It was fun but god damm is it boring to watch.

And whoever said football players are fat too, at least they exert energy during most of the game instead of sitting on their asses or standing still.

yea, when you're just a few feet away from them, most of them are actually pretty fit. Or at the very least, not as big and nonathletic as they look on tv.

try hitting a ball the size of your fist going 100 mph, with a wooden stick the width of your arm. baseball takes more skill then you could ever wish to have. if you understand what is actually happening, it can be truly fascinating. and souldskier hit the nail on the head.

there is nothing like the atmosphere of a major league park.

Baseball is barely a sport. When you can be obese and still be a professional athlete you know that whatever sport you play is a joke. Look at other sports like hockey, basketball, soccer (I hate soccer but I'm trying to prove a point here), notice how you won't see any professional athletes in these sports that are even over weight?

I know that a lot of baseball teams have tons of history and have their legacy and whatever but its still the most boring thing to watch ever.

I used to play baseball and I find it the most boring sport to watch ever. they have a couple amazing plays but usually it is really boring. that being said it is a funs sport when you play the positions that actually do stuff like pitcher, catcher, short stop and 1st base

blah blah blah hit a ball at 100mph that's the only argument I hear from baseball fans as to why it is "exciting and athletic"...too bad while this one guy is taking his sweet time trying to hit one ball everyone else on both teams are just sitting there picking their ass..bottom line its a boring sport.

Nothing like the atmosphere of a major league park?? Have you ever seen a Montreal canadiens home game?? Or a soccer game at Azteca field in Mexico City against the US? Or a Florida gator college home game in 'the swamp'? I've seen these games and you cannot describe the experience in words..its brutally amazing

..but yeah im sure a home game for the kansas city royals must be thrilling you and 5,000 other fans having a blasty blast

I kind of agree with you. I love golf and you could argue the same thing. I realize the is lots of skill involved in baseball but that only applies to like 2 players on the field at a time. The pitcher and the guy at bat and i guess you could also argue for the catcher and the runners on bases. Apart from these guys, no one on the field really has to do anything.

Sure there's a lot of skill involved in certain positions but baseball is still the most boring fucking sport to watch in the world. I also feel like baseball players are pussies because they always get like an inch away from each other's faces when they argue which makes them look like idiots. And then they trow their hats on the ground and stuff which is really cool...

I've also read a lot of stories about baseball player's taking viagra before games to get their energy level up. that is fucked

lol @ the fact you have never stepped into fenway park. i know this because if you had, it sure as shit would have been on your list. you want to hear some more arguments why is requires true athelticism? try throwing the ball 90 mph, making it curve at the end, making sure it falls in an area of about 1 square foot, all while 60 feet away. try catching a rocketing ball, hard as a rock bouncing on the ground well over 100mph, now try picking that tiny white ball out of the often sunny sky, judging exactly where it is going to land, then being able to catch that in a 10-12 inch glove. you honestly have no idea what you are talking about and are just spitting shit out of your ass. im not arguing that any of the other sports you described the stadiums of are more/less of a sport. im not arguing that those stadiums are any less exhillerating then an MLB stadium, i am simply saying there is an atmosphere, especially at Fenway, that can never be attained anywhere else.

soulskier said to an outsider its boring, which is beyond true. hell, i find it boring as fuck to watch for hours on end on tv when not too much is happening. would i say the most boring sport? no. but thats because ive been around the game my whole life and alwaysknow whats happening. as for viagra, i have never heard anything of this, and know nothing of viagra besides if you get a boner for more then 4 hours you need to see the doctor, but i wont say its untrue/true. performance boosting drugs are a problem in really every single professional sport out there. its a shame that the game needs to be altered that way, but people do it.

jesus christ, this is fucking blasphemy. Baseball is, and will always remain, America's pastime. I don't even know what to say to you people, this cuts right down to my soul. There is no other sport that requires the raw talent, split-second decision making, intense concentration, extreme patience, and knowledge that Baseball requires. Everyone who hates on it, try playing it, it's not as simple as it looks. Baseball is deceptive in that way-it makes everyone think it's fucking easy to catch a ball or to hit a pitch-it's incredibly difficult.

Actually been to about half a dozen sox games over the years..they're the only baseball team (mlb) I've ever actually gone to see

The atmosphere was pretty exciting but only til about the 3rd/4th inning then shit got boring and everything calmed down until the 8th or 9th..but only depending on if it was a good game or not

As much as I might love the city of boston..sox games can't hold a candle to other sports games I've seen

so many people think baseball is putting the ball on the Tee and running around the bases... its SOOO (X1000) much more than that.

not to mention you make ONE little mental mistake, and its probably gonna cost a run, and it only take one run to lose a game.




besides, ide like to see half of the NS baseball haters go stand in center field and catch a fly ball, let alone a line shot, or something that requires some movement.

Andddd baseball is the greatest sport (aside from skiing) in the world. It's aesthetically perfect. The only people who don't feel that way are people who have the same short attention span that has allowed for this generation to create the XFL the UFC and every other halfbaked idea we've cranked out

You're just hurting your own argument when you make that statement...think of anything else from the 1800's or significantly and by todays standards it's considered obsolete

It's the same with baseball..it served it's purpose way back when other sports/activities had not been developed but now it's obsolete and boring by todays standards
