yeah, he's so ignant. This would be a BOON to the protection of our boarders. If you make it impossible for people to get a license without really buying into the system, by forcing people to go about coming here legally, learning the language, contributing; you could really cut back on the flow of illegals into the country. Don't want to turn this into an immigration debate, but the easiest way to get rid of this problem is to remove the incentive to come here. One way is to make it harder to get licenses, another is to slam the businesses that hire these people. Remove the economic impetus, employment, and no one would come here...but god forbid we make our immigration policy as "harsh" as Mexico's.

i aint from the south, hell im not even southern ontario, i just want to see people stick up for themselves. like all of our roadsigns being in french because 8 percent of the canadian population cant learn to speak english

I dont know, I dont live there or anything, but I have a feeling that you're not going to save enough money printing out drivers license tests in english-only to fix the other issues...

Then again... he does have 1 point - nobody in their right mind who speaks another language is likely to settle in Alabama of all places... so it might as well be English only...

Maybe it's cause I'm drunk, or maybe it's cause idk, but if they can recognize road signs they should be able to take the test in other languages. Like have the test in their home language, but they still have to learn the signs in English. Say someone immigrated from France, and they don't speak English very well. If they understand the road signs and can follow American driving laws, why do they need to speak English to take a test?

None at the federal level. States rights goes into effect here though, and Alabama made its official language English. Hence "this is Alabama - we speak English"


That said. Who gives a fuck about Alabama? I say let them do their own thing and screw themselves over... Secede if they want...

In California. We speak English. And Spanish. And Mandarin... and Arabic......... and Japanese.............. and pretty much anything else you could possibly conjure up.

Our roadsigns are in English and Chinese in certain parts of San Francisco, Oakland, and LA. San Jose has a whole Vietnamese section. In many areas across the state, there are Spanish and English roadsigns as well - and there are many small towns across the state where the communities are very much ethnically different - whether it be Russian, German, Swedish, or Korean or something...

Our media is multilingual, since i flip through about 4 or 5 spanish stations and 1 or 2 asian language stations when i'm surfing channels.

I speak both Spanish and English. There's nothing wrong with speaking multiple languages. Stop being so one dimensional.

Well put. Also, if I were to get a job in Sweden or something and were going to move there immediately, I would expect to be able to get a license without speaking Swedish.  Road signs here as well as other countries have either numbers or symbols on them, very few use words.  I just got back from Spain and though I don't speak Spanish, when I see a sign that says 70, I assume the speed limit is 70; the shit did not hit the fan. 

I feel like in the US we are developing an irrational fear of foreigners, and we use minute details like these as outlets to express this.  This is a nation of immigrants and we should be more accommodating and for the love of god, the number of languages on a drivers test should not be considered a platform for a political candidate.

Fucking Alabama.

Missed the point entirely. In the context of what we're talking about, learning a few words in spanish ain't gonna kill ya. And I'm sure if you're researching cancer, you took a spanish class or two in high school. Frankly, if the only reason you wanna change the DMV forms is because you're tired of seeing other people's languages on there, you're a fucking idiot and would rather see innocent people not be able to live in your state because you were slightly inconvenienced. That's bullshit.

As for california not being an example for things that are positive? What about california do you see as negative? Is it that we have the biggest, most diverse economy in the nation? or the fact that we have the largest and most divirse population in the nation?

Hmm... not sure what you're on about there mr South Dakota...

The only reason it passed was because of overwhelming bullshit that religious institutions (especially the LDS church) paid for... with really ridiculous ads saying that gay marriage is going to hurt our kids and make them turn gay and they turned it into something that it's not.. and dumbed down the population. It was utter BS for sure.  And yet it still only passd like 51%-49%. It will be back on the ballot in the future... no doubt about that...

haha, I was just kidding, I like California. I've heard a bit about that too. Something about 75% of donations for prop. 8 being given by Mormons even though they only make up 2% of the population. They are starting to sound less like a church and more like a political action group.

also. you people need to realize, that immigration at the rate it is going. is BAD. okay? i know, i know, im an ignant asshole and i should kill myself or repent for the horrible racism and ethnocentrism i am showing in this post.

but seriously, our countrys infrastructure, natural resources, government, ETC. cannot keep up with the number of people coming into the country right now. in like 10 or 15 years, we will be FUCKED. and i know its "not right to not let those innocent people in" but allowing people to immigrate into your country is the WORST way of helping people in other countrys. the are like a straight billion people who live in shitty countrys and have shitty lives, and each year we can only let in about a million. thats a drop in the fucking bucket. that means NOTHING in the scope of things. we need to heavily cut down on immigration, and find new ways to help the people of the world and from our neighboring countries. letting them all into our borders is not that way.

yeah... i dont remember the exact money that went toward prop 8, but my god it was an astronomically high number... and like 50% of the people protesting in the street were not californians, and about 95% of them were white...

Sorry for the threadjack, but here's just an example of what i mean when it comes to the bullshit that was spewed with that. haha.
