Have your parents ever done this to you?

ok, so i went skiing yesterday, and i was hitting the first Xl jump which was 45 feet. the first time i hit i cased a bit but it didnt hurt. then i go to hit it again and i ditched too much speed and i landed 5 feet from the landing. and i bruised my heel pretty bad (pretty bad as in i have to hop every where on one foot) when i got home my parents were watching tv  and they asked what happend so i told them. and they banned me from skiing in the park. and they said since we had a 1 hour talk about how the park isnt safe and how u can get hurt easily. now i have to ski with them from now on or not ski at all. have your parents ever done this to you? and which one would you chose? not skiing or ski with ur parents

obviously ski with your parents, because skiings awesome no matter what. try to get out of it though, that sucks.

do you know how easy it is to ditch your parents, and why didnt you just go for it, an overshoot is always better than a knuckle or a case.

ive hurtmyself pretty bad in the park and they dont blame the park and dont really care. but when we skied an unmarked run once my parents grounded me.

You could get wrecked by a car running a red light crossing the street.
You could trip and fall down a set of stairs and fuck yourself up bad.
You could get hit in the temple by a stray golf ball near the driving range.
You could get nailed in the face with a baseball standing at the plate.
You could tear your ACL walking on a freshly mopped floor.

Yeah life has its dangers. So just not going to do anything? Tell your parents to stop being so immature and grow up. It's life.

yea well my parents arent stupid. they will know where i went and when i left. and i thought i had enough speed but to hit the first jump at my park you cant speed check at all

uhh im gonna have to disagree with that one.  overshooting a huge table to flat is probably the most painful thing ive ever felt.  knuckling isnt nearly as bad.

seriously, tell your parents that it isnt that dangerous and show them that people dont get seriously hurt in the park that often. i really hope you can convince them because being banned from the park muat seriously suck balls.

ive landed flat before and totally knuckled, and id have to say casing the jump is worse, not by a landslide, but still worse.

well... if this happened to me i would say fuggg dat and do what i wanted.  im not big on disobeying parents, because the truth is most the time they are actually right. yours are wrong though so man up.

or threaten to kill yourself unless they let you ski park, watch out though with parents like those good chance theyll stick you in therapy.  hey but then theres a good chance youll get some meds to zombie-fye you and youll forget about the whoooole thing!

just sit down with your parents and have a mature, non complaining or fighting conversation with them. explain how much you love it, how you'll be careful (if for no other reason than so you can keep skiing), and how when you get park experience at a young age it discourages injuries.

and if you really talk to them about it, and you keep a level head, and after a lot of discussion their still not budging, just tell them its something healthy physical activity that you love to do and their not gonna be able to stop you, so they might as well support you. (this is a absolute last resort, but it works sometimes)

How old are you that your parents are still this worried? I'm seventeen and when I come home and complain about something hurting, the rents just say then don't do that anymore or your going to kill yourself one of these days.

along with what everyone else has posted, i'd say make a list of precautions you will take from now on

such as:

1. speed check/look at every feature at the beginning of the run
2. same as 1 if the snow changes
3. have a spotter?

i dunno what else... haha

Oh ok, I was going to say, if you were 16 or older, you would be almost an adult, and in two or less years you could be doing whatever the hell you wanted. 4 years and 2 years are a big difference. I would just ski outside the park if were you.

I feel your pain. I've dislocated my shoulder twice in the park (and another time playing tennis, don't ask how) and my parents have had enough. So we talked, like you did. But it was a pretty peaceful dispute. It made me realize how my shoulder is fucking weak.

For that reason, i will decrease my time in the park by a lot. I might even go for Telemark. Anyways, as long as i'm having fun skiing and not injuring myself, i think I'll be happy.

Problems always seem worse right when they happen.  Relax a bit.  You aren't going to ski for a couple of weeks anyway, so just let the issue rest for a week or two.  Then, have a mature conversation about it and tell them that injuries are in fact a risk, but explain tot hem how you minimize it.  Then, go skiing with them next time and don't say anything until around lunch time.  Really respect and appreciate time with them.  Then ask them if you can take them through the park and have them watch you go off of a couple of jumps.  Most fear of one's child getting hurt is irrational, but natural at the same time.  Be an adult about it and I bet they will reconsider.  In a month or two you will probably look back and think to yourself  "it wasn't that big of a deal.  I was freaking out over nothing."

ha your parents are fucked in the head. Get some friends that are total fuck ups, it'll make your lil park skiing habit seem like nothing.

I had a friend with overbearing parents and once he turned 18 he literally never spoke to them again.
