Welding

Ok, I know ho to weld. Like, legit. My dad has taught me how to TiG, MiG, ARC, and Acetylene as well and I have a question. I am not a certified welder (state of WA) and am curious would it be ok for me to list on summer job applications that I know how to weld or is it something I should tell the employer when the call me or I go in for an interview?

I envy you, all we have is an ARC and it sucks dick to weld with. But I would go ahead and put it on your application if you can weld pretty good and areversitile. I have automotive repair experience put on my app since I worked in a shop for a year. Not certified but I know more than the average Joe.

My bet is that if you're pretty good then the company will help you get certified while you work there. They may they may not. They towing company across the road will help you earn you're CDL on the job, so I guess it depends on the business.

If you are sure of yourself and you know that you can lay a quality bead first time every time then put it on your application that you can weld. 

I can't tell you how many college or trade school educated people I have seen that weren't worth a shit.  I would rather hire someone sure of themselves or at least someone with determination to do quality work than someone who thinks they know it all because they paid for school.

haha  hope I didn't offend you.  Now that I think about it a little more. Generally the people I have dealt with that are school trained were the managers or crew leaders who had the managerial skills (paperwork) necessary for the position and not necessarily enough real life field experience when observed later.

My above commentt was harsh with what I said and was not meant to dissuade any one from attending a school to learn a trade,  just spend some time in the field (1 year full time plus) before you talk to someone who has 20 years in the field.  lol
