i get what your saying. but by this stage in the game dont you think they would have the overall sense to try to make a product without such obvious gaping failures. tablets have been around for a while they arent exactly revolutionary products. when the ipod and iphone first dropped id say they were pretty revolutionary products. this doesnt seem that way. i dont think people have really fully conceptualized the best and most productive uses for a product like this anyway. i do think it will get better but it seems to me a pretty disappointing launch

I think you guys are missing the point- the main selling point for it is the e-reader

the e-reader market is huge and growing - between kindle and sony alone they sold 3 billion worth of reader- plus another 5 billion worth of books- so apple is gonna get in and make their version of it

I personally wouldn't use it for books but a textbook function would be awesome- you could take notes on it and a whole bunch of other shit

so for that purpose alone I think it will sell

I can see where youre coming from, but the thing is, for the money this thing is beat by laptops.

On the flip side I can see a TON of people just destroying the screen. You drop this thing once, and its fucked.

I see what you mean, the textbook thing seems like it would come in handy down the road. If they incorporated a full computer system into this concept, then this thing would just skyrocket, I guess thats where I eventually wanna see it going. If they do that then I don't see anything else that could compete with it.

I think the product was a great concept, and would be much better if apple was willing to make a carrying case, it's going to be a bitch to find something that can hold a 9 inch wide tablet with a specialized screen that's only half an inch thick. And, if it's going to be used mainly as a reader, why not just get the nook? Or the Kindle? Well, probably because apple fanboys will be all over having the apple on it. What I really don't understand is why you can't write on it, like in a notepad then have it convert your written text to typed text, so you don't have to press the damn touch screen buttons. I haven't looked into it much, but does this thing have speakers to play music on? And can it access itunes and carry your music? Cause that would be a huge plus side, even if the downsides are so massive.

If you could write on it, it would be awesome as well as if they fixed some other stuff like you said. Maybe it will be an open source type thing with apps, so maybe someone could make a writing app. Or any kind of app for that matter.

You can pay $15 per month form the iPad to AT&T and get up to 250MB data plan, or you can pay $30 through the iPad to AT&T and get unlimited data plan.

Either one is month to month and is not a yearly contract.

Wait, so your saying for less than $500, you can get a decent computer AND a kindle? the kidle is 250, that leaves you $250 left for a computer, there is no way in hell you can get a decent computer for that price, no way

The problem is the iPad isnt met to be a computer, and I doubt that the computer could perform MORE functions. The iPhone OS has tons of unique apps, for christs sake some guy survived the earthquake in haiti because of an app he had

I'm actually really impressed. The price is really on-point, I think. The hardware looks excellent. Being hooked to AT&T if you want data isn't great, but the plans are really reasonable compared to the typical iPhone bill. Month-to-month doesn't hurt either. The big thing is that it's an emerging platform. One we get native, built for iPad apps for it, it's going to start looking more and more like the MacBook, I think. Docking was a smart move, and the implementation of iWork is really impressive. I'm sure iLife is coming in the future. At this point, it looks like Apple is going to have another event in March, and with this thing running 3.2 and 4.0 expected for March, what we've seen so far might have simply been a tease leading up to 4.0.

It's priced well, but I think it's really just a big iphone. It's not that different, just kinda bigger. I don't think it was meant to be a computer as much as it was just meant to be a competitor with maybe like a kindle or something.

Although AT&T is the company that has a data plan for it at this time, Jobs said that it was 100% unlocked. Given that it uses GSM, it should be able to use TMobile, but I am not sure why anyone would want that.

The AT&T plan is a no contract plan, and to answer your other question: you don't have to be a part of AT&T in any other way. So if you have a Verizon phone, you can still get AT&T 3g service on the iPad

Ya it is 100% "Unlocked" but only if your contract provider uses Micro-SIM's....which only AT&T and T-Mobile do.

But even beyond that, it only uses the 850/1800/1900 Bands of GSM and HSDPA, and it doesn't use the 1700/2100 AWS band.  AT&T is on the 850,1800,1900 bands, and T-Mobile is on the 1700/2100 AMS bands for 3g.

So even though it is unlocked, it will only have 3g for AT&T as of now.

Wow all of you guys are complaining about things like touch keyboards and price, You need to do some research before you judge. There is a keyboard that can be attached to the Ipad there also are some new applications like iwork, .... WHich is way better then microsoft office.

It's not supposed to replace a laptop.... they are assuming you already have a macbook or something else... I think shits baller as hell, of course it's an unnecessary accessory, but so are most things.

seems perfect for presentations, planes, business type shit... sitting in traffic lounging on that wood grain checking your stocks... i can see it
