hahah that was great.  i loved COs goalie just skaten on over to whoop some ass.    I dont really know shit about hockey but how do the goalies manage to get in fights?  They are on opposite side of the rink.   Do they taunt eachother from the opposite side or what?

I broadcast junior hockey and we recently had a goalie fight.

You are pretty much right on, when the other guys on the ice are getting in to it the goaltenders will yell at each other and taunt, if one goaltender comes out of his crease to do something to the opposing team, the other goaltender will go right after him. It is a rare thing indeed but goalies fight great because they know it could be their only one ever.

sorry for my ignorance but in hockey are you allowed to fight the other team members? there always seems to be so many fights going on but no-one stopping them or breaking them up..... WTF?!

Refs will generally let fights take place, they just step in once someone falls basiclly. In huge scrums they're basically watching for who does what to assign penalties after most players stop fighting.

they usually try to stop it at the beginning, but sometimes the players are able to continue if they are really into it. then the refs watch to make sure there are no major injuries and they will step in if the fight gets too out of control (ie when one player falls down).

there really arent that many fights per game, since most get stopped at the beginning.

one of my dads friends was an NHL ref for a while. He said that basically they let them fight for a while because they have pads, and the refs dont. Once it starts to simmer down they will try to break it up

True I remember watching an espn interview will "Ol' Roy" and how he is the coach of his sons junior team. And how he was signialing(sp.?) his son to go fight the other goalie and he just wasted him. I can't wait until he breaks into the pro's!

the best thing about goalie fights is that they generally happen during line brawls, which are the best. Pretty rare in the pros but fighting happens all the time in minor/club leagues which is why I tend to watch those games more.

in a regular fight thats not minor league (lower than junior league like WHL) they will let fights go on until they figure its gonna be a while before anyone wins cause its been going on so long already or when someone hits the ice basically. unless the one who hits the ice gets up really fast.

Imagine stepping in to break up a fist fight. Now imagine this on ice with 2 very strong hockey players. Breaking up fights is not easy in the slightest.
