Bent Chetlers and JJ (NOT A REPOST)

more of a personal question. So ive narrowed down buying skis and i definately want a 5 dimensional ski. The choices ive come down to after some searching and asking are the JJs and Bent Chetlers. I have park skis so this is a powder ski for days when it snows. The thing is that i want a solid powder ski but i need a ski to use for big mountain comps as well (usually some powder on the lines.) I am around 135lbs and 5'7. So some deciding factors are: which ski would preform better in powder all around the mountain (trees bowls etc), which is better for steeper terrain and cliffs (big mountain) and what length? Will the bents be too long?

jj's and chetlers are jib skis.they can charge well but ur better off getting something like an EHP or czar. they both slay pow but are probably a bit better for going straight and fast in crappy conditions

the czar is an all mountain type ski (for big mountain and pow) its got a narrrower waist width then the others. and i see a lot of guys using it as a bc jib ski. i would still go with the s7

Well like I said I haven't had the chance to try the S7 yet, but skis in similar shape made to ski one way(like EHPs and Elan Boomerangs) that I've tried have skied better than the JJ and Chetler as far as crud and charging goes.  The mount made to be a few cm farther back, directional sidecut, and usually more tip than tail rocker along with different type flex patterns all help a bunch.

But honestly there are at least 5 skis in that EHP/S7 category that you should be happy with, but it seems like the S7 is the most versatile.

what would those five skis be? idk i just prefer the s7s over the ehp at this point for what i want but more options is great

Others would be like 190 Bibby Pros, Lotus 120s(new hybrids are a bit heavier than the air light carbon fiber ones, so they will do good in crud, and DPS already had the shape down right), Lhasas, and I loved 190 Elan Boomerangs, but I only skied them in pow and don't know what the flex was(somebody said soft, which would kill crud abilities).

But, if I had to have one non-park ski, it would either be 195 S7s(guessing since I haven't been on them yet) or 190 Bibby Pros(same answer)..  Some camber+underfoot stiffness+tip and tail rocker+taper(on S7s) in the 11_ width is going to be a great all around ski..

Just judging from your height and weight and the previous posts, get the 175 JJ's, the bents will be too long for you and they are not light skis

This would be stupid.  At his size 185s would be no problem, and for what he wants he shouldn't be getting JJs.  Again, I'd say S7s, 188s if you want a ski a bit long for you(still not even 188 and will ski shorttt) or 176s, which will feel short for you.  Longer skis are so great and it's overrated how hard it is to use them(especially with taper and rocker..)

i'd agree. any other ski but the s7 would not be a good buy, just because if his height and weight. hes also apparently young so hes gonna grow and if he has them will pack on some pounds in due time. so i'd definately go with the s7

First off I'm going to say I have no experience with either ski.

It makes me a little nervous though watching the amature hour bonus segments in EDIAS and Durtschi broke two Bent-Chets?  Did no one else notice that or is it just not a big deal?

i didnt notice that? i got the itunes version so idk if its on there. but that would be a wakeup for me about buying those if he broke em. when did it show that he broke them?

I have no idea.  I'm not hating on them and have no real info, there are two separate places where he is holding a Bent-Chet that has snapped.  That is all I know.

sorry dude, but i just watched the whole movie, and durtschis segment and the end twice and didnt see any broken bents. unless it was in the extras on the dvd

no durability issues with easier ski, they will handle a beating, to whoever said bents are heavy, put them up against any other ski in the same size range. they will almost undoubtedly be lighter.

Haha they are only easier to maneuver due to the 5 dimensional shape on groomers and snow thats not deep. In the deep and sometimes heavy pow they will be really hard for him to handle because he is so light, and what if he doesnt grow much, biggest mistake ppl make with skis, well mostly boots, buying too big and planning to grow into them. but the jjs and chets are are pretty stiff too so they dont move around in the pow as easily too.
