Fuck (people who know things about shoulders)

Hi.

I need some help from Dr. NS!

I dislocated my shoulder about 2 and half years ago, while tubing behind a boat.  I did bunch physio for it, but that winter when I started skiing, it would pop out like nothing all the time.  Fast forward to last winter, I was going to physio twice a week, doing all my excercises, but the shoulder would still pop out in my sleep, opening the fridge, coughing, and flailing, among many other things.  Sooo I had a bankart repair done in April (surgeon said the damage in my shoulder was a 9.5/10 for severity), was in a sling for 10 weeks then couldnt really use it until mid September when I started physio to regain all the strength I had lost.  The shoulder felt great, I had even fallen on it a few times where it would have popped out, but was solid.  Until today when I was just mobbin like usual on Red and somehow fell into an unmarked mineshaft and popped the suckaa out.  Im pretty pissed.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of injury this long after the surgery?

Am I fucked?

Here's an experience and suggestion article I wrote. I've dislocated mine many times, had surgery and dislocated it again the next winter. I now wear a brace which there' s a pic of in the article. I've heard good things about a surgery called "latajet" (pronounced lattajay). In that surgery they actually add some bone to the socket part of the joint. It apparently limits mobility slightly, but not enough to bother you unless you throw baseballs or footballs competitively.

you fell into a mine shaft?! that is pretty awesome on its own... shoulders are pretty fragile. even after surgery you need to be very careful with them especially with an injury as severe as your sounds. it will never be 100% again. you just have to be extra careful with it now as to not damage it further.

my man long story short - you are fucked.

I have been through hell and back with my shoulder (no fucking lie).  If you had surgery and it repopped you have a long road in front of you ESPECIALLY if you are young.  If you want shoot me a pm and ill give you my # and I can go in great detail what happened and what happens when shit goes wrong.

Jeff, you really telling Ns that you fell into a mine shaft? they'll think you're so hardcore (well, for the record - Jeff is pretty hardcore... I mean, the guy fell into a mine shaft!) hahaha.


Sorry, I have no input, I just like how you told NS you fell into a mine shaft. Was it that one on main run I didn't notice till this year, or was it somewhere else? I tell you - every winter I notice a new one that wasn't there before.

my brother got surgery on both shoulders because they kept doing that. it took like 6 months for eac arm

i hurt my shoulder 5 years ago and its still not the same no matter how much physical therapy i went through.  dont count on it ever being 100%

I dislocated my shoulder once last spring and i was told that it would keep popping out unless i got surgery.i never had any, and it popped out again last summer. I started doing a bunch of strenghtening workouts and now it hasnt popped out after.

As was said earlier, after that first dislocation, your life is never realy the same even. I have had a number of dislocations. Nothing as serious as yours, but still very painful and unpleasant. It's also a genetic issue in my family with us having a shallow socket so the surgery is questionable in effectiveness for me.

Your best bet is a brace. I don't ski much park anymore because of my shoulder either. And if I do fall, i always do my damnedest to tuck my arm in to lessen the leverage.

i poped my shoulder for the first time 1 week ago. i am out for 6 weeks the phisio.

they told me if it pops 3 more then i need surgery.

te surgery is only 75% effective meaningg it will probly still pop

yea my shoulder is fucked from lifting and football.....i might have to have surgery on it in the future and i re-injured it 2 days ago landing flat off of a little drop.

i have had major shoulder reconstruction.. shit is not fun. there is a very good chance you destroyed all the work the doctor did on you.

Mine popped out while playing a soccer game.  This little kid just kicked me while I was on the ground with the bell (I am  Goalkeeper)  But I had a stong sholder from splitting wood, so it just popped back in quickly. If you dont have a strong sholder with short tendons and ligaments, you will be more apped to have it pop out again.  So in other words, get your sholders all strong by starting small with like 5 pound weights and then move to 10 pound weights, and then pushups and then pull ups and chin ups.
