as for Charlie ager, I really like his style, cuz watching him is like, oh, hes not going to land that, wait, what, how the fuck did he land that? its cool, i totally dig it.

henrik harlaut looks like a fuckin clown.

tom wallisch looks like an idiot on anything but jumps and rails.

simon dumont cuz he always does the same shit year after year and never really gets any better.

im sure theres more, but thats all i can think of right now.

50% of skiing is in style. it demonstrates control which is a major aspect of park skiing. someone who opens up on their landings and cant hold their grab for long enough lacks control, and therefore not the best skier. people like max hill dont throw dubs (from what i have seen) but have really amazing style that demonstrates alot of control. his hands are quiet, he has a unique outlook on many park features, and his landings are always smooth. id take that anyday over flaily dubs and 14's.

what if my perception of style is that flailed 360s are awesome? you can't say there is one universal style that everyone has to follow, and if you don't you automatically suck. its like throwing a baseball, you won't see two different people have the exact same arm motion and have the exact same throw, its just not possible. yet they are doing the same thing.
and I'd say maybe %30 of PARK skiing is style, but definitely not actual skiing.

perception is subjective. control is objective. a flaily 360 clearly doesnt demonstrate control, and wont be percieved as stylish. theres no universal style but usually what the majority of people thinks looks good does in fact look good. unique, one-of-a-kind styles (travelling circus) still demonstrate control, otherwise it wouldnt be style it would just be hack and flaily. style is being conscious of your body positions through your turn, in the air, or on a rail. someone who flails either isnt conscious of this or is not a good enough skier to control the flail. plus i think the line between park skiing and real skiing is being somewhat blurred (ie park skiers in the bc are killing it harder than ex-racers and such). time for a paradigm shift...?

It's hard to say because there is no definition of perfect style to some people it would be how you ride away to me it's how relaxes you look in the air. If it looks like you just pulled a trick with ease that is good enough for me show's control in your skiing. The riding away with the poles behind your back in a relaxes position is somewhat unnecessary , but now it is a thing that everyone expects and if you don't have it well then you have a bad style. To me doesn't matter it's how you are when you are doing the trick not after!

i understand what you're saying about control being objective. i guess im just being a little bit of a devils advocate. but control can be classified as just air awareness with jumps and such. knowing what you're doing mid trick and having the ability to spot your landing can all be classified as under having good air awareness.
and i dunno about park skiers skiing better than some bc and ex racer guys. they may be able to be better on bc jumps but as far as skiing gnarly lines and having good form, park skiers are still way behind.

I totally see what you're getting at, but I think it's a garbage excuse to use super baggy clothes to hide sloppy skiing.  I as a tall person have accepted that I will never have the same clean style as someone a foot shorter than me, but whatever. 

Look at guys like Pollard, Pep and Mahre.  Arguably the three with some of the best style in skiing and none of them wear tall tee's or jackets around their knees.

If you have style, you have style.  If you don't it doesn't matter what size of jacket you have, you still don't.

I dont know any skiers in particular but Imo Jon Brogan isnt the most talented skier skills wise aside like a few tricks like his lip two on in refresh and a few tricks i saw him do at hood and keystone but he had mad style so i still love to watch him ski. And Tanner Hall putting shiftys in all his pipe tricks is real ill looking but it makes his landings and runs in general look much more sloppy compared to his runs and landings the year before.

this is a tough call. the only thing i can think of is whoever is saying Jon....really? being a smooth skier is one of the best styles to have. do you not like his style because he lands centered on skis and doesn't drag his hands? he's one of the best.

but really, liking style is opinion so this whole thread is a joke :P

I disagree. I think one of the reasons why he's fun to watch is because his style is like no one else's. I love Ager's style because it doesn't look like anyone else's and because it always looks like he's skiing really fucking fast and hard.

don't get me wrong he is awesome and one of the best, most progressive skiers out there, and also one of my favourite skiers to watch. I just don't think his style is as natural as some other pros.

id say style is being totally conscious of all body parts in the air and when landing.

there was an article on it a few years back in freeskier or powder about pollards, cr johnsons, andsomeone else i forgot, perceptions on style. good article
