its not about looks, longer poles can be shitty on jumps and rail if they get in the way its much harder for shorter poles to jab you in the stomach also

um, what?

I'm 5'8" and my skis are 171's... Have you seen a pair of center mounted skis before? I know this is a hard concept to grasp but it's when you put the bindings right in the middle of the ski. Thus, the tips appear shorter as the tails are longer.
