So I just joined ski team?

I figured that Im too poor to go anywhere but my home hill (500' vertical, it sucks) so I would do it on the schools time and money. Its only 4 or 5 other hills that we'll go to, but I figure it will be worth it. The only thing Im concerned about is how I ride Salomon czars, and gs/slalom is probably the only thing that ski will have trouble with. But hey, its only one run, I dont care how shitty I do, I'll just take my one run, and continue schralping elsewhere, in the park and trees!
Does anyone else do this, out of curiosity?

I did ski team at my highschool freshman year thinking the same. Turns out, most of the races were on night courses and none of the other trails were open.

Try it though, it was nice to get out of school every friday

I did it a year in highschool. We got free skiing time so we could go wherever, and racing was pretty fun too. definately worth it

I did ski team in HS too thinking the same thing, but like said above, most were done at night and you can't really go off and ski on your own. But sometimes you take trips like for the weekend and get to ski a little bit. One time, it snowed like a foot and a half over night and none of the other teams could make it so we got to ski pow all day for free. Try it out, you may like it.

slalom and GS are two separate events, so you would be taking two runs. But yes, that's what I did in high school. I was the captain my senior year and my team went to State. I learned how to ski really well from four years of ski team and had a lot of fun with my friends. You'll have a good time racing too, despite what you think now.

i raced last year with the same mentality

we trained at night and there were 2 trails open, one with gates, one was a cat track

you're gonna have to run gates so you might wanna get some race skis. besides, you'll become a much better skier after learning how to race

everyone here is pretty dead on. except you really need to pick up race skis, their stiffer flex and more extreme sidecut is what you need. i dunno about where ever you are, but here in wyoming we weren't allowed to run our races on twin tips. but what people are saying about becoming a better skier is so true. i had no idea how much technique went into it. that one year was the best investment. the downside is that usually the FIS racers are total douches. but the highschool only racers are usually pretty cool.

of course the best part was being able to shred the jackson hole backcountry twice, for free, instead of being in school. (:

after racing for a year i was just able to shred everything /claim

i came from a backcountry background with a lot of freeride, then added racing which really solidified my stance, strength, and style, and the combination of the 2 = sheer rippage. you'll be happy with your decision. get some cheap race skis though

I did a high school race team. It sucked, after a year I quit so I could go back to skiing park while I was there.

I just don't understand why so many people hate on ski racing. its actually pretty fun and rewarding if you put a bit of effort into it. the sound of shinning a slalom gate...so sexy.

i feel like most of the hate comes from the cocky 15 year old racer who just races. there are lots of these kind of kids, but there are also lots of really cool kids who race.


also racing on czars will be tough. go to a ski swap and see if you can pick up a pair of used sl race skis and use them in gs as well

Last year I did ski team and rented race skis for $200, so I decided this year to save the $200 and use my invaders, we'll see how that works...  but I probably won't have to race anyways. but its so fun and totally the ight decision and helps your skiing a lot

maybe in maine. here, one was a cunt, the other was jailbait, and the last one raced until she was eight and a half months pregnant. she denied she was knocked up the whole time. her parents believed it, and the coaches didn't say shit, and got pissed when we joked about it. not even kidding.

have you ever seen a beachball that has been deformed but still holds air so that when it blows up there is a wierd, taut bulge in the middle of it for no reason? that is what i thought of when i read that.

i joined my high school race team so i could miss school to go skiing. i just lapped the park and only went to like half the races. and when i went to them i fucked around a little by racing on hellbents, going switch, etc. good times.

your school pays for your trips? kinda confused about that.. mine doesn't.

im on my highschool race team, its mostly a joke for everyone on it, but we get to ski red this year and that mountain is awesome for powder so its worth it. we have to race 4 times then get three days at a powder place. plus miss school for the races. i think its fun.

Haha IDK about skiin the Czars man that could be hard, but if you like racing it's worth it.  If your team is pretty loose you can run your race and then go elsewhere. I've been on a few strict teams that won't let you ski so that you don't get hurt.  Just make sure that you don't get sucked into something super competitive.

I kind of am down for racing my czars though. Its SO much ski, and would be such a challenge to race with em, I like challenges. Its crazy enough that I ride them in NY (although Im in the powderiest part of the east coast... lake effect from ontario means like, 220" of snow)
But if it gets cumbersome, I'll probably ride my old fischer sceneos (LOL!) because they are half twin, narrow, skinny wastes of space. Only thing is, it will suck to have to bring two pairs of skis; those and my Czars. Im not hitting park on a half-twin.

at a regional ski racing meet during my junior year in high school, i crashed but still finished my first run of gs. i told myself that if i did the same thing the second run then i would try a front flip off a roll towards the end of the run. I crashed and attempted the flip but didn't get enough air and crashed. Good way to get the DNF though.

I did it all last year and it was a goodway to miss school and go skiing.  I alawys brought my park skis so i could lap the park after my "one" run.  It was pretty sick and i think im going to do it again.

the only good thing about my sister racing besides going to the mountains and shredding their parks i suggest getting a sibling into it and go to "watch" and just have fun and dont even pay attention to the racing my dads a professional ski instructor so he taught me well which means get outa jail free card on skiracing

Our mountain has no vertical, so our team sucks. There is only one kid on the team who takes it seriously and he is a racer douche. Buy race skis and race them, but take your twins to races. The race officials only get a little pissed if you miss your run cause you were skiing park. I only race for the fun of going to different mountains with your friends and getting laughed at by the serious douches for pulling shinanagins.

Yeah, I'm thinking of joining my ski team this year too. Last year I didn't and was sort of regretting it... but I think that I'm going to ski in my Reno Rockers. Ice and rocker. The perfect combo.

yeah i did the exact same thing my freshman year,
GS on public enemies, it was an interesting experience and made me love park more than ever definitley got aa seperated rib though not fun but it wasnt too bad after a while
