DROID or ROGUE. which phone?

ive googled them alot lately and im getting one or the other from verizon this weekend. so please help me with some prices and maybe special info. i know alot about the phones already, so i dont need very detail. thanks!

How about a real question:

iPhone or HTC Hero?
Before you call me an idiot, think about a few things:
The Hero has a 5 MP camera
Its web browser has flash player enabled
You can fully customize all of your home screen pages, and make different presets (for work, weekends, etc.)
Android 2.0 is basically the shit
^^those are just a few things.

I have an iPhone, I'm just wondering what you all think.

If your a broke college kid like me I would say go for the rogue. I just switched to it from  a blackberry and the price of my plan dropped from 147 a month to 84 a month (and that 84 a month includes unlimited data)

but if your parents pay for your service and cost is not a question go with the droid.

I personally am very very happy with the rogue. love the speed when i get on the internet. 3.0 megapixel camera is great and has alot of cool modes. Plus the screen resolution on the rogue is fucking amazing!!!

Droid. vs. Hero. vs Iphone

Sure the Hero looks more like an Iphone, and it comes with SenseUI (a GUI) installed on it, which makes the Android OS look a little more sexy. Plus the phone is rounded, and not square like the Droid. But you lose computing power with that.

The Droid is the most powerful hand held phone to hit the market in terms of speed, capabilities, etc.



You are going to have to copy and paste this yourself since NS isn't working to swell at the moment, but this is a hardware, software, and cost comparison of basically everything worth choosing from at this time.

Also to note. Hero doesn't come with 2.0. It comes with Android 1.5. The digital camera might be the same, but if you care about video recording. The Droid capture awesome video for a digital camera, 720 x 480 @ 24fps. Basically 480i

But still this is video that is captured and it is pretty damn good.

The screen on the Hero is only 320 x 480 also, so the Droid will beat them in that category too.

The Hero doesn't suck.........but this is now basically a pissing match with all the competitors.

An analogy....
Instead of HP, Compaq, Dell, Micron, Packard Bell, and so on fighting over which computer kicks the most ass in all the price ranges....you got Samsung, Motorola, and HTC fighting over which mobile phone kicks the most ass in the right price range.

Long story short, there is no better time than now...and tomorrow to buy a smartphone. Everyone knows by 1st quarter 2010 the number of Android devices will be 3-4x larger, and our Droid phones will be like the Iphone 3G......

One thing to remember, if you get on Verizon....decide you think it sucks because of costs (Verizon or AT&T = costttly ass bills, expect $100 a month), or you want a new phone say 10 months from now and you are in contract.......

T-Mobile will pay your ETF fee if you switch to them and sign a 2 year contract with them....on top of this Sprint / T-Mobiles unlimited text / data plans are just WAY more affordable then Verizon or AT&T

Not sure who pays the bills around the house, but if its dad flipping the bill you want the Droid......

I should say this is video footage captured with the Droid....


Anyways yeah the Droid device is the "leave your camera....mp3 player....gps......and almost leave your camcorder at home"........because it does it all.

Did I even mention turn by turn navigation built in to the Droid? Aka say good bye to Garmin and TomTom and shit.

This is a BIG hit on GPS companies though. Since with the Droid you have street view or satellite, or terrain, and yeah endless cool shit going on.


In fact it wouldn't surprise me if there isn't a "Traffic Pass" app or something that just takes a look at your route......and goes on the net and finds any delays and re-directs you before you even get stuck in that bumper to bumper traffic.

Well do you want a normal phone or a smart phone? The i just got the rogue, its pretty dope i like it alot, mp3 player, internet browsing thats only 10 bucks a month, etc. solid keyboard, nice touch screen, its a legit normal phone. Now if you want a smart phone, obviously get the droid.

Quite honestly I can't stand any touchscreen phone right now besides the Iphone.
After using the iPhone for over a year now it is really hard to go back to any other brand. Everything about the phone works so smoothly, its really something else.

That being said, if the iPhone is not an option, the DROID looks like the better choice here, but it really depends on what you are looking for.

i actually have the blackberry tour right now, but since im 16, and no one i know uses bbm, im giving it to my dad and hes getting me a different phone. i know it kinda sounds crazy. 

question--- will i be satisfied with the rogue??? i like that it has a slide out keyboard, but i have bigger fingers. and can u have apps and such on it???

I was going to call a verizon store but I never got around to it and it's too late now. you seem pretty educated on this subject though. With a premium family plan, unlimited text messaging, 700 minutes, 4 phones. About how much do you think it will cost to put a data plan on one of those phones per month if I want to get the droid.

Well, I would go Droid if money is no issue. I don't know much, but it sounds like it has a slide out keyboard, and to be quite honest, I hate them compared to my iPhone's screen when it comes to typing. But, I hate typing on any screen, besides the iPhone, there is really no comparison. Go Droid.

i'm happy the people on verizon can get the awesome android os on their phones now, but you shoulda switched companies 8 months ago, i've had a G1 since march. the google maps gps map is amazing too, not only do you get every type of map mode, but traffic updates as well. Most apps are free which is the shit. you really can't go wrong with any phone so long as it's operating the android os

I ended up getting the droid. Its a really sick phone. Haven't had one problem yet. Its really fast and there's some really sweet shit in the android market. Facebook, pandora, and youtube are all better on this then on my ipod. The only, and I mean ONLY tweak I have with this phone is the buttons on the side are pretty wiggly. I always feel like one is just going to fall off. Other then that.. sickest phone ever.

but seriously, its so sick, everything is lightning fast, so many sick apps, and you know theres going to be so many more now that the droid is on verizon.


my only complaints so far:

-battery life, if you run a bunch of widgets and stuff like i do, which update like every 30 minutes or so, it eats away your battery life.
-texture of the keyboard, its like a matte feeling....i wish it was glossy or something

Battery life blows on any smartphone to be honest.

Turn wifi / bluetooth off unless you need it. I set the screen to turn off in 30 seconds instead of 1 minute (1 minute by default). If you turn off the tactile whatever it is...when you touch keys they vibrate thing ya know? Blanking out on the name, anyways, turning that off saves some juice too.

I just have a car charger, and a charger at my work and at home.

Here is a tip also for ANY battery, don't charge it all the time. Let the battery drain to nearly zero or whenever the Droid starts warning you to charge it. Then charge it all the way up and give it a full charge.

Basically the more you juice up and juice down a battery...the shorter the lifespan of the battery.

I know we can replace our batteries and all, but still they are not necessarily cheap.

I should say battery life blows on any smartphone while you are tearing away on the internet. Using the GPS, pandora streaming radio, and my buddy surfing the net......yeah its going to chew away at the battery pretty fast hehe. But thats the same with nearly all smartphones.

I have an iHome alarm, and I leave my phone in overnight so that I wake up to my iPod in the morning (I have an iPhone), so my battery seldom gets below 70% and then I overcharge it...I know I'm destroying my battery life, but I don't have a choice unless I want to wake up to the radio, and I don't want that at all.  It's quite the little predicament.

buy a juice pack off ebay it's an extra battery and fits like a case. my dad has two and he loves them, you just charge it up over night and when your iphone is about to die slide it into the juice pack and it charges.
