Getting fit for this season

last year i got injured a lot, so the past month i ve been running and lifting.

anyone else have a certain routine or set of exercises they do to get in shape for ski season???

Do your core, legs and lots of stretching. I like to work the shit out of my core (stomache and back muscles). Hammstrings are also really important as skiing will over develop your quads and if your hammies are weak there can be a shearing motion between the two on a heavy impact thus tearing your ACL. I do legs presses to, so I can get my legs ready for the heavy impact of decking or shooting a landing. Stretches are also key, last year I dropped 10 pounds for the ski season and stretched lots I could take monster impacts!

I opt to neglect cardio like that as I would rather have my legs have lots of fast twitch explosive muscles to deal with the big jumps and big tricks

streching everyday is whats gonna make the difference. you dont want to take a big crash and contort your body in ways that its not used to yet.

two weeks ago i pulled a muscle in my lower back. I ve been trying to use special back stretches every night before i go to sleep but they seem to put my back in more stress and end up giving me pain in my entire back....

any suggestions??? is there such thing as stretching too much??

you can definitely over-stretch, but i dono if too many reps will do too much damage.  maybe to a physical therapist or sports doc for a consolation, if you ask they'll give you some stretches and a fitness plan for whatever you need

Its going to sound weird but dont stretch at all, drink lots of water and you will be better, back muscles are one of few that you dont really want to use when there pulled.

jump onto and over stuff to build anaerobic power for good jumps,rails, and balance..
as for just riding grooms, biking would work just fine...

cycling and running. you have to do mad cardio. a good lap through a serious park will leave you gasping for air and bagging peaks in the bc will absolutely kill you if you're not cardiovascularly fit. after all, you have to have energy to rip the peak you just spent 2 hours summiting, you know?

run up hills, squat with the weight nearly at your max, learn to stand on fitness balls, and hit the trampolines.

Injured or hurt? Big difference.

Both suck, but if you are constantly getting injured in the same place, maybe time to see a doc about it.

Getting hurt is no big deal, do the stretching and core workouts like everyone else said.

If you are skiing right you shouldn't be getting injured often because you should know how to fall. Some things are of course unavoidable but you shouldn't be spraining your wrist every other week or getting concussions. If that is the case, you are doing something wrong.

Hurt = (soreness and a day or 2 recovery)

injured = (ski patrol)

ski yourself back into shape during the first 2 weeks of the season? at least this is what i do...don't hit many rails or jumps until my legs are used to skiing again, pretty much just take milk runs all day and ease back into it

Hahah yes great advice!! core workouts have always been key for me, also biking is amazing crosstraining, I biked ten miles per day this summer, went to t-line in september and had more pop than ever before (even after hiking up to the features in my skiboots FAIL)

I think swimming helps a ton with being fit for winter, it helps you be cardiovascularly fit, and it also helps with flexibility and strength and endurance obviously. thats what i do

One Word that isn't really a word P90X.   It works. i downloadesd it and burned it onto cd's and on my ipod so i can use it at the gym if i feel like it. ab ripper x is the shit but it makes you want to kill yourself

Longboarding whenever I can has definitely helped me.

See I am not the kind of person who likes machines, so I find fun activities that are able to mimic the stress that skiing puts on your body.

Running for cardio (though I don't so much because of skating)
Skating for balance, core/legs, and cardio
Trampoline for muscle memory, and the other obvious benefits (don't do as much because Im at school)

Also,  I like to take every opportunity to mess around.  Bursting up flights of stairs on my regular walks, jumping over shit, jibbing around in my shoes, stuff like that.

I know I look like a strung out motherfucker when I am playing around, but hey, I rarely feel worn-out after the first weekend back on snow.

ive been cycling a bunch this summer (and the past few summers) and it definitely is a great way to stay lean and increases your endurance like crazy. great way to build quad strength.

I also recently started swimming, and really like it, its a great mix of endurance and resistance, I still really suck lol, but its great for the transitional period between summer and ski season where it can be difficult to get out on a bike.

and the dude who said longboarding is SOOO right. set those trucks up loose and go PUMP around town, that shit is an AMAZING core workout, though you def. have to mix it up and skate switch too.
