Do yourself a favor: Get the 50 dollar pass to Mt. Baldy. Baldy and Waterman are the only legitimate places in Socal. They have good terrain, when they get snow. If you get the 50 dollar Baldy pass, and you have a Mt. High pass, you will be pretty well covered. I go to Mammoth 2-3 weekends a month, I got my pass for 576 in April. I assume you missed that, so the Mammoth trips will be limited.
Here is the link:
Do yourself a favor and hit that up. When the runs to the parking lot are open Baldy has runs that have a 35 degree pitch for 1200 vert. It is not Mammoth, but it is real skiing , which Mt. High/Bear are not.
Buy the 50 dollar pass. You have to make a reservation to use it, but that is no big deal, just call the day before.
Don't miss out. You will thank me if Socal has a decent snow year. The runs to the lot have been open the last couple of years. There is also the Thunder Mt. peak at Baldy, which has legitimate black diamond terrain. It is not super gnarly, no 50 degree chutes of big cliffs, but it will keep you entertained.
At 50 dollars, you really don't have anything to lose. Buy a pass, and get a friend to buy one.
Baldy has some sick backcountry around it. You will look around at the mountains, and be amazed this terrain is in Socal. There are people who access that stuff from Baldy, but do your homework, it can get dangerous.
