has anybody seen either the TGR or MSP movies this year? What did you think? which one was better this year?

Here's my thoughts on MSP's In Deep

Having attended the world premier at the Boulder Theater (21+ showing) I can honestly say this was one of the best premiers I've ever been to.  With that being said, this was largely because everyone at MSP did a professional and very personal job of commemorating Shane McConkey.

With a sold out crowd literally standing in recognition of a true legend and cheering for 5+ minutes it was awe inspiring, the movie unfortunately didn't reach such standards.  \

Sean Petit opens In Deep with an amazing, soul touching segment....great mix of drops, Alaska and spinning in the backcountry.  Highlight of the film!

But after that MSP presents a number of montages that are loosely connected to some theme, such as powder, air, etc.

Finally, the movie concludes with a great segment devoted to SHane McConkey that elaborates on the events happening the day of his death, his accomplishments and what he meant to all of us.

Overall i'd say a 7/10....definetly a movie to go see, but not so much to buy.


Please note, I'm not a tall tee park rat either so i viewed this movie with neutrality.

In Deep - Similar to every other movie they have done. Sean Petit really does kill it, but I personally found the movie to be a little boring through the middle, until it picked up with an epic Heli-Shoot that Henrik Kills. Shane McConckey Tribute closes it out...

Ide give it a 6/10..

respect for paying tribute to shane in the closing segment, but otherwise the film did not live up to the hype, sean petits opening segment is amazing, he doesn't land the rodeo 7 if you're wondering, but still amazing.

after that though I felt the movie lacked any kind of structure, it was just mix of different people in different locations and too many voice overs about feelings.

they did do a fantastic job with shane's segment however.

i'm personally more into big mountain stuff, alittle park, and not really urban that much, so i'm particularily interested in what anybody who's seen it thought of the TGR movie. from what i've heard tho, in deep wasn't that great, even as a big mountain flick.

I'll probably end up with both of these because they'll be the only ones in Sport Chalet and like every year I'll probably get like $100 worth of gift certificates there for Christmas and have no idea what to buy with it.

Just saw a premier last night. Sammy had the opener and straight slayed. He had banger stuff in the park as well as the BC. Sage also ripped it pretty well, spinning both ways in sketchy situations; that dude is nuts. The guys that stood out the most were T-Hall, Dylan Hood, Dash Longe, and Wiley Miller. THese guys all had shots throughout the movie and just hit some really impressive gaps and had a good trick variety in the BC. There was also a lot of typical TGR shredding and sick lines by Seth and others.

yeah i know, his segment in UTI was intense. i just hope that Re:session is alittle more well rounded. i like the big mountain best, but a few of the segments in UTI got borring.

Just saw the premiere tonight.  I'd say they're both about the same caliber.  I really liked both of them.  Sage destroyed like always, nailing some rediculous AK spines and he even hit some BC jumps, of course, doing his signature 360's off of them.  His segment was set to Pretty Lights too so that was sick.  Wiley killed it, that man is ridiculous, goes inverted off of everything.  Callum Pettit was amazing as well, scared the shit out of me when he fell in the... oh, i'm not gunna spoil it.  Ian had some ridiculous charger lines like always.  Tanner killed it with some jaw dropping 7's off pretty big airs.  Definitely worth seeing/buying.  Oh, and there was definitely recognition to Shane, but it wasn't huge, but it was pretty well done, just Erik Roner talking about how Shane taught him everything he knows and dedicated the line he jumped to Shane.  The rest was standard TGR stuff.


On a side note, now that Sammy is getting into the backcountry, I'm super stoked to see him progress even more in the next few years.  He's gunna straight dominate in a few years if he stays healthy (callum/kye/sean too).

TGR's best yet. Again.
Dylan, Dash, Wiley, and Sammy all nail switch TECH pow landings like cats. Sammy also stomps a shifty 3 off of fat bastard. Sage spins both ways, holds his grabs a long time, and kills some gnar lines. He's definitly still getting better. Ian McIntosh goes huge and fast over many large double stagers. Dana Flahr laces misty 7s off 40-50ft cliffs soo clean. He also takes some serious wrecks that were already released. I kinda thought Tanner has been better in other movies. But he still charges, has certainly earned BC/AK cred with the big boys, and late shiftys EVERYthing. I'm a TH fan and just have high expectations :) Kinda the same for Seth. His front was impressive. I think I saw Tanner's (4?) surgery crash in the DVD extras. Roner's ski base was epic, but Shane would have gone upsidedown a couple times. I hope Roner gets shit for that from the nitro circus crew. Rachel Burks gets a quick two flashes that could be mistaken for ANY of the dudes in the film.
Oh, the fucking Callum Petit 'Hole in One' is the most ridiculous thing ever.
This movie made me want to go to Poland; how wierd is that?
No double corks. But there are some well grabbed Kangaroos.
I kinda missed Jeremy Jones' snowboarding. I've always appreciated how TGR is one of the only companies that doesn't discriminate. I guess it will have to wait for his two-year-wild-man-human-powered-remote-lines project.

I forgot about that.  Too bad it's illegal to ski anything good there!  I think I'd rather move to that town in Italy.

And yeah, the Hole in One was ridiculous, it was like he aimed to tomahawk straight for that thing.  Can't say anymore cuz it'll give it away.

Re:Sessions is more well-rounded than UTI for sure. No urban of course, but a lot more big hits and some park mixed in with all the usual big mountain stuff.

yeah, i got re:session on itunes and am probably gonna buy the DVD because because the quality on itunes was so-so. some of the backgrounds were too wwashed out. But anyways, the movie was sick! best GR i've seen, more well rounded than UTI and no borring segments, whereas in UTI i fall asleep by the end. much, much better music as well. One of my favorite TGR soundtracks, aside for prbably High Life. The only segment that was a step down from UTi was seths, which was a bit of a disapointment. Sage's segment is even better in my opinion, gets me sooo stoekd! It also has good flow, and a nice sotryish feel so that it stays interesting. This is, imn ,my opinion the perfect big mountain film.

on a side note, i also saw EDIAS, which was also sick. EDIAS and re:session are the best in there respective genres, i've watched each of them alot. If your really into big mountain and some sick back country jibbing buy re:session, if you want the most progressive tricks thrown down in the park and BC, with some urban and big mountain thrown in get EDIAS. they're both sick. haven't seen in deep yet tho.

I saw both... and personally i liked In Deep better, Shane's tribute was amazing Colby West was hilarious and the skiing was great. I enjoyed Re:Session I really liked Sammy's part and the skiing as a whole was pretty good... over all if you are going to see them go see both... if you are looking to buy one i would hands down get In Deep

i failed to make it to Re:session this year but i did see In Deep, and it was by far the best movie i saw at freshtival this year.

it was intense, the music was perfect, and the tribute to shane was freakin awesome!

haha it defs got me pumped for the season
