it hurts really bad if the water is anything but glass, it takes forever to learn to do (at least it did for me) and falling at barefooting speed hurts you alot

I've done it a few times. First time i started off longline and got real fucked up. farthest i got was about 150feet.hurt real bad.

next time was off a boom, so when you fall you just keep holding on, then tumble back up

third time i was real hammered, though it'd be a good idea to try to get up long line. i basically just drowned myself and didn't do anymore than being dragged a few hundred feet.

you have do go like 35-45 depending on how big you are

i love barefooting. i go at 41, any faster and i find my feet really start to kill. Its actually a lot easier than it looks. Not what they're doing, that shits tough but basic barefooting is really not incredibly difficult.

my roommate is god at it, he's supposed to teach me sometime either this fall or next spring how to do it, right now I'm focusing on getting better at Jumping.

my friends dad barefoot races. it pretty crazy to watch and they have to be going fast. i tryed it off the boom and it is really hard and it hurts a lot when you fall.

i did a bunch of barefooting a few summers ago
you need smooth as fuck water, a good boat, and a padded wetsuit otherwise falls hurt like none other

the hardest part is getting up, you have to drag in the water, then roll on your back, pivot on your butt, and set your feet down and slowly get up

it's super fun though

i got decent at it, i could do a deep water start, flip around and ride backwards, and do transitions from butt to feet

i find riding backwards is easier because you don't have to focus so much on catching your toes

toes are the worst part about barefooting, you always have to keep them raised as high as possible which starts to suck after a while. also if you leave an open gap between your big and 2nd toe the water will sometimes shoot up and hit you in the nuts...you need very strong toe muscles

i'm calling shenanigans....or pics or it didn't happen... front to backs aren't a trick that you learn when you're "decent" at barefooting....that's a pretty advanced trick...i only know a handful of people that can do them and they've been footin' for a LONG time....

there are shoes for barefooting, there called barefoot trainers.

^I've been barefooting for a while, about 15 years(since I was 5), and I think backwards is easier once you learn how to get up that way.

It's a lot of fun and ive been in competitions. My dad is a lot better than I am, he can do front flip and when hes going backwards he can put his toe in the foot strap go down,ride on his hands and do a push up on the water

yeah, i've been footin' for almost 20 years, and I've NEVER seen anyone just learn front to backs without first learning back deeps or a back step off...

i would love to watch someone try to learn that way though because the crashes would be amazing to watch...header....header....header....header....header.....header....header.....

The barefoot nationals were held in my hometown for years and it was pretty sick to watch. The barefoot jump was my favorite... then I am not sure what happened but it isn't around anymore.

i was trying them off a short handle on a boom so i had much more stability and i only succesfully completed like 2 after about 20 massive wipeouts...so yeah i basically don't know how to do them, i just got lucky a few times that i tried and could ride backwards a bit...i could never go back to front though, i'd shakily spin around and then usually fall on my face after like 10 secs...so yeah saying i could do them more meant i did them once which was probably 85% luck

i was also learning with ron scarpa (another claim, friend of my grandpa's, long story) so he walked me through like every single thing i needed to do

yep i think i jumped too far ahead, my entire experience was header...header...header...header...it was incredibly painful and i think i swallowed a gallon of water

and i did do a back deep to learn how to ride backwards

I've met Ron... Nothing personal at all but kind of just in passing. Jon Kretchman is from my hometown (town of 13,000 in MN). He was a member of the US elite team with Ron.
