I got Refreshed.

Seriously.....

Unbelievable....

Did that really happen?

I think I do my best to not rave, not to show bias, but..

To those who had to wait each Winter/Spring for a Warren Miller film to sometimes show up at a local theater and to those who bought his VHS tapes and are reading this..........

You! You will be able to relate to what just happened to me.

It is not that I don't want to respond, it is that we both get into personal biases which makes it impossible to be anywhere near objective. You watched tom grow up and Tudor is a contact in my cell phone. We have those biases and we have to live with them. It is hard to watch a ski movie completely objectively. The last time I watched a ski movie completely objectively was in April of last year when Ian Coble critiqued movie after movie as we were watching them and I didn't have any personal ties into anything considered pro.

Sometimes we overlook things that we want to. I couldn't believe some of the shots that MSP had in their film that I would have left on the cutting room floor, and those shots didn't have anything to do with the skiing.

To truly judge the movies head to head, the person doing it must not even know what they are watching.

This post is best left here; It is jumbled and ambiguous but true.

To be best - it should be outstanding amongst its peers. yes?

Best is the most liked, most scored most whatever.

Peers? hmmm  people who ski? NS'ers at IF3? Once a season weekenders on inpulse buy at the register? kids who rip the movies for free?  All of them? 

I disagree with the idea of using judges that "To truly judge the movies head to head, the person doing it must not even know what they are watching."

I think judges need to be in tune with who is buying the movies, where they are bought and/or who is influencing those buying decisions. otherwise you run the risk of something like that really artsy Sweetwoods Film winning best. Afterall the Award of "Best" is best used as a marketing tool. Correct?

ahhh  screw it ......  verbage below.

When it gets right down to it, there is enough diversity in skiing to do exactly what was done this year,  the Jib and Big Mountain Awards. I am approaching my Movie of the Year opinion from a big picture perspective regardless if Tom has puked on my beach house floor. :) No bias here. But fuck yeah, opening seg behind that narration, damn, pops wally gotta be so f'n proud!  hahahaha  anyways......

 What is the biggest memory point in this crop of films?  What is outstanding when you measure them against each other?  If Narration from one of the most famous iconic legends in skiing history. Who came out of retirement to put his stamp of approval is not considered as the most outstanding memorable feature in a film, then what?  Hi-Def Reds coupled with Hollywood Post production?

in the intro i didnt think it really was warren miller, just someone doing a really good impression of him as a joke. epic movie. someone PLEASE name me the kickass song of the opening AK segment?

The true judging was the last part I wrote on that post and obviously it doesn't work from a judging sort of view. (IE: Xgames big air.) What I was trying to get at was being truly impartial and now i am have just thought hard enough and realized that is impossible, so you are right. The best informed the really the best to judge. We can both admit that we are partial, but we can see through it and even if we don't speak the truth, we still know what the truth is.

"best of ________" is a marketing tool. I was getting texts for a Play by play of what was going on last night from a crew in spokane which quickly changed into facebook status's and even my own: "I'm a no one that is no where but at the same time I am part of the best ski movie of 2009." However, the way that is used right then is celebratory. I am willing to put money saying the poorboyz.com frontpage will say 4 time if3 award winner some point in the near future.

Something I almost brought up in my last post was about the viewers choice award. I remember it was brought up right before EDIAS, was it brought up Friday Night? I think it must have hurt level 1's chances with its unveiling. Is there a tally of those votes anywhere?


Sweetwater was a whole different level.

Everyone came out swinging this year and unfortunately for the consumer, you could easily end up spending over $100 on films if you want "the best" movie.

Level 1's film was great and while I agree with Rob on all of his Warren Miller references/thoughts/opinions, I think this new generation has even more folks to look up to. Warren Miller was all I had. Then it was PBP, then Level 1, and now even more.

The movies being made are better than they've ever been and as a good friend of mine said this weekend, "Now it's up to the distributers to sell the products."

Enjoy your fall ski film season, NS. It's gonna be one of the best ones you'll ever have.

Right - enough of this - when do they all ship.... i've pre-ordered most and now this is just killing me... anyone have any idea when the DVD's will be dropping? It's the 21st of Sept! Seems to get later every year!!

I am yes mildly excited about receiving these movies....

I hope that Refresh is amazing as well but damn, EDIAS was hands down the best ski movie I've ever seen. I'm not about to go spend $30 on the level 1 flick, I've already been mind blown multiple times by EDIAS and Contrast (pep 360 handdrag off that cliff WHAAAAT). Maybe I'll borrow it from a friend.

I'll just borrow it from a friend. Maybe I'll buy it when the price drops if it's monumental. I already spent $15 on How We Livin' and $12 for the nimbus/pbp premiere. I'm saving money for gas and lift tickets now haha

thats funny because on my ballot I choose EDIAS as peoples choice and then added a note to the ballot that I only chose them cause Refresh will be movie of the year. 

So I screwed up that ballot
