Me and some friends have looked at both pairs of skis and we think that both are pretty much legit, but personally we lean towards the EP pros because we love the pow and they're fatter and we like the graphics better. From what we've seen also they are supposed to make skiing the powder like skiing in the park because of the early rise it's easier to land switch. Also they have reverse camber which makes it easier to turn in the powder because of reduced drag. I'm not sure is the Hellbent have revers camber or not though. Hope this helps a bit.
The hellbent is more of a charging ski, while the EPpro is more of a playfull, hoppidy ski. its shorter and more nimble than the bently. It is also considerably softer, so if your looking to drop large cliffs you'll want some bently's.
I have ridden both and own hellbents. They are both fun skis, but I prefere the bent's due to their ability to charge hardcore and shred anything. You will have to ask yourself what kind of pow skiing you want to do, and then decide. graphics should not influence your decision, though i think the bent's graphic is way sicker. skiing is all about being hardcore and crazed norsemen. The hellbent's are sicktacular.
my new sig. yeah hellbents are for charging, eps are floaty and soft, both are about as rockered as you can get, both are great for skiing switch. bottom line Ep's=softer hellbents=stiffer, personally i'd get the Eps because i already have a ski thats good for charging, but if your'e going to be skiing in some variable snow (sluch crud) get the hellbents
I try to stay away from hardpack as much as possible on my EPs. But ripping down a face, they will slap up and down on the snow loud enough to make people fear you.
yeh, they actually do pretty good on hardpack, especially western groomers that usually are a little soft anyway. They are suprisingly versatile, I found them better than bents for everything except charging.
Having demo'd all 3 of these skis, I agree: Caylor is my favourite. They're closer to the Hellbent than the EP Pro though. If you want a really soft ski, go EP. If you want something to actually shred on, go Caylor. Though you really can't go wrong here, unless you're picking the wrong ski for your terrain.
for your height and weight i would say the ep pro is going to be too soft and short for you compared to the 189 hellbent which is almost the same ski so just get the bents because they have them in your size
im 6" would the ep be too short (and soft, though i like soft skis)? i weigh 160 pounds.
would the hell bent in 189 be too long for me?
im really undecided. help :D
thx guys
Unless you are 180lbs+ the 179 Bents, 185 EP Pros and 181 Caylors are more than enough ski. The rocker and width on all three of those skis provided more than enough float.
As far as deciding between the three,
EP Pro: Softest, fattest, most pow specific
Hellbent: Still soft, slightly thinner (barely) a little better all mountain. Really heavy. 189 Size = 195 and is a BIG ski (obscenely heavy)
Caylor: Medium-stiff flex. Thinnest of the bunch (120 vs 122/126) Bamboo core provides lots of pop and is lighter than the Hellbent, despite being stiffer. Easily the best all-mountain performer of the three.
They are all good skis, but it kinda comes down to what you want. If all you are going to be skiing is nipple deep pow, then by all means go for the EPs. If you want something more suited to resort skiing, and day or two after the storm snow, go for one of the stiffer ones. And since I am biased, I'd go Caylors. But seriously, because you can get such a good deal on them right now, I don't know why you'd choose otherwise.
Yeah, I don't get how a hellbent is a charging ski. If I wanted to go as fast as i could, which I do but NJ doesn't have big mountains, I'd ride like motherships or something big and stiff. Bents seem more jib oriented and a lot softer than something I would want to charge on. Unless my definition of charging is wrong?
That being said, I wish I had the snow to buy EP pros or bents and put them to good use.
Get whatever the eff you want. It doesnt matter really, because you're going to float pretty much fantastically no matter what. Enjoy being on awesomely fat skis. The end.
i know that you sort of allready have two skis that you are looking at but try www.kingswoodskis.com
