sony mdr v500's around $120cdn i am on my second pair. my friend broke my first pair on a plane ride and then within a few months went back and spent another $120 on a new pair. great sound quality, great bass, cancel noise quite nicely, feel great, not too expensive for the quality and they look nice too.

IMO the best headphones under $100 are AKG 518 DJ's and Grado SR60's. They're both super durable and they sound great... it just depends on whether you want to be able to hear outside sounds or not.


AKG 518DJ - Closed, block out noise

i can tell you right now its orange juice.  apple and grape juices are too sweet, while things like POG and other nectars dont have the right texture to go well with breakfast foods. orange juice washes everything down so smoothly.

For pure listening pleasure: beyer dynamics DT770 you get professional quality for a modest price...
if you look around you can find some for around 130 or maybe even less...

Bumping this. Hopefully someone will read it.

I'm also in the market for some new cans. Any help would be appreciated so much. I'm no audiophile, at least not yet :)

I'm looking for a closed back design covering my ears. I'll mainly be using these in my dorm with 2 other mates so I'd like them to not put out ambient noise.

Comfort is an issue at I'll be using these for multiple hours a day. And I'm sure when I'm not using them, another friend will be.

I'd also not want them to be a neutral sound. Hopefully have some power so I can bump some hip hop or rap when I feel like it.

If I can I'd like to keep the price under $100. Thanks!

im going to say that you can get the $50 wesc oboes and be very happy. and they come in many colors. you can get orange ones for $30 at backcountry.com (outlet)

I purchased a pair of Sony MDR-V500 headphones 3 years ago, have taken them skiing up at Whist and Seymour on occasion as well as going to school when I felt that ear buds just weren't in the cards that day.

These are by far the best headphones I've ever had, Crisp sound, excellent base, and great noise cancelling qualities. Long cord, but its a coiled cord so its bungee like. Very comfortable, and very durable.

I've narrowed my search down to these two.

AKG 240S

I've heard good things about both of these set ups. The AKG are semi-open and I've heard reviews from both perspectives on whether they put off too much ambient noise. Some say it is next to none, others says it's noticeable.

Anyone have some opinions on either of the two. They are pretty dead even in my mind. Both have pros and cons that even out to about the same for me.

i have had the older ones for about 5 years now and havent had a problem yet.  most headphones ive owned barely lasted me like a year and a half....  skullcandy's lasted 6 months for me.

Yeah. I'm not ready for an in-ear headphone yet. I have my skullcandies that are working fine for me now. I only use them with my ipod and I only use that when I'm walking around. I don't really care about sound quality at those times yet.

These big cans are specifically going to be for home use and/or long travels.

All good. I'll eventually get a nicer pair of in-ear. But it'll be a while. No demand for them yet.

But anyone have some opinions on my two options? I'd like to get them sometime today actually.

sennheiser makes really uncomfortable and overpriced headphones, go for the AKG's, the definitely have better sound quality, probably more comfy too.

Really? I was pretty much dead set on the 240's but heard that people with small heads tend not to like them because of the size. I wear a size 7 hat btw. And now I'm back to square one.

How comfortable are they?
