Danny Kass arrested for driving his van up a trail!

After being discharged from a weed conviction a couple of weeks ago he goes and does this.... dude can't be the brightest boarder around haha. Hopefully this isn't a repost.

"A high-profile United States snowboarder has been arrested after a crazy stunt that allegedly endangered skiers and boarders at Cardrona Alpine Resort on Monday this week.


Double Winter Olympic medallist Danny Kass, 26, drove his van up a crowded main trail at 9.30am.

Kass, a finalist at Cardrona’s Burton NZ Open last weekend, allegedly got the van jammed in snow on the way up. And that’s when disaster could have struck, according to Wanaka cop Mike Johnston.


“The vehicle ended up getting stuck on an angle and because the snow conditions were soft, if the vehicle [had] rolled over it would be a great big metal missile screaming down on its side or on its roof – down through the middle of the skifield – until it stopped against something solid.


“He’s put a lot [of people] at risk.”


Pro rider Kass is thought not to be entering the Winter Games – halfpipe events are on at Cardrona next week – but “he won’t be back” at the skifield, Cardrona manager Gary Husband says.


Kass initially spoke to Cardrona staff about having his conspic­uously-painted van towed to the halfpipe for a promotional photo shoot.


But then “the driver has taken the liberty of thinking that he had permission to [drive] the vehicle all the way through”, Johnston says.


“Now whether he had permission or not is irrespective of him putting members of the public’s safety at risk.”
With chains on his van, Kass allegedly drove up past the carpark, beside the ski patrol hut next to the base building and up past the queue to MacDougall’s quad.


“He’s basically driven up the middle of the main MacDougall ski route. And there’ve been members of the public coming down through that,” Johnston says.


“To have a completely alien-type vehicle in that environment with no warnings at all to anybody causes huge concern.”


Skifield staff contacted police once they saw what was happening, frantically organising a groomer to build a snow barrier to prevent the van from sliding.


Kass was breath-tested but wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Johnston confirms.


He was charged yesterday with endangering the safety of the public and is scheduled to appear in Queenstown District Court on Monday.


Husband won’t comment because it’s now a court matter."

Agreed, kids need to chill the fuck out on this site. Its all so goddamn hypocritical when everyone want to be thug but as long as you obey the rules.
Im sure the run was not crowded, and they said ski patrol was there by the time the van was stuck so unless they were completely they probably had people out of the way. It was a funny stunt

why do u care? why do all of u care if the dude smokes weed and doesnt give a fuck and is bad for snowboarding not even skiing..how does this directly affect u? if u were making fucking BANK had your own company, tv show, and won just about every competition im sure ud do what u want at the mtns u roll up to...besides unless u were there/ride there none of u can say shit cuz it doesnt sound like he was driving all that far anyways to get to the pipe. AND if he was given permission to put it there then they better bite their tongues and realize at some point they said go for it.

i think there is a little bit of people being bias in here.... one i think the whole thing is pretty funny yea he shouldn't have done it but it prob isnt as dangerous as they make it sound... i dont know the dude but i can't imagine him driving the van in an uncontrolled manor he prob was on the side of the hill going slow as shit

The topic was brought up and we are all bored in the summer, so why not talk about it? It's not that we care, it's just that it's something interesting to talk about.

He wasn't given permission to drive up the hill while it was open. Why would they say that then ban him etc? And they mentioned that he got it stuck and it was in a position that could have tipped over and potentially killed people. Having a successful career in the industry doesn't mean you're entitled to put other people's lives in danger just for shits.

I think it's more along the lines of RESPONSIBILITY. You act responsibly so you don't fucking kill somebody by acting like a god damn show-off and driving your van up a slope.

Even so, isn't Danny Kass an adult? Being an adult doesn't mean you can't have fun or you have to exhibit "old parental uptight behavior," but come on man, what are you even trying to get at?

The only thing I've taken away from your post is that you have the maturity of a twelve year old boy and won't face the responsibilities that are apart of growing up.

Everyone seems to be missing the reason the van got stuck. It would too soft to hold the van, to me that says no matter how that van flipped it would have stayed put. Stupid idea? Yes. Funny? Yes. I still like him, in all reality the only people endangered were kids, anyone with half a mind can avoid a van that's mostly tan....with a shark mouth on it.....that's all I'm sayin. I wouldn't do it but that's still a hilarious story, no one got hurt, I think everyone in this thread has their panties in a bunch, but thats just me.

look. you people are all ridiculous. maybe everyone else is worried about image, the sport, badassness, being "sober and parent like", but not me.


if it was hard enough for the van to drive uphill, then it is hard enough to support the side of the van. i guarantee the van would have flown down if it had turned over. i dont care about anything else but (theoretically) my little sisters safety. if she falls, she waits for me to pick her up. she cant get up on her own. thats the same with many little kids, and some newbies.

im not calling out the rogue side of the sport, but how can any of you condone this? they said it was a BUSY OPEN trail. you all saw my front page video and all of my pics. i get loaded and hurt myself all day long. its just not ok to do it when somebody else might get hurt.

and to you above who im quoting, i hope you shoot yourself in the head. "in reality the only people endangered were kids." please, do yourself a favor and let a fucking van run over you. i can promise you in 15 years when you have a child, you will regret saying something so fucking stupid.

Swap Kass out for any pro skier and most members on this site would be on the the skiers nuts for being THE MAN.

Honestly, the whole situation is hilarious.  No one died or got hurt, everyone leaves happy.  Sure it wasn't the smartest idea, but since it's Danny Kass everyone gets to hate on the guy, those are the unspoken rules.

I think I was being a little naive in my last post so let me clear up my thoughts. 

I never said the idea wasn't stupid or dangerous.  I was just pointing out the fact that I think a lot of this hate is only because he's Danny Kass.  I'm not trying to attack anyone, that's just how I see it.  The guy is an idiot, yes.

Do I think he should be punished? Yes, he shouldn't have done that.  Was what he did dangerous? Yes.  I just think the Danny Kass name can get NS all fired up in certain situations.

this thread is out of control. pikupfulofsnow is related to danny kass, has already boasted about getting checks in the mail and living off kass's success, and clearly is only on his side for that reason. so a few things are inherently clear thus far:
1) yes, danny kass is an idiot and put a lot of people at risk. this could have been handled in a different way, they still could have had a sick pipe shoot, and it could have been a complete non-issue. it wasn't, but really, no one was hurt so the whole thing is going to blow over.
2) pikupfulofsnow is not going to stop calling us pussies, narks, and the like. he's just some other kid on the internet. get over it.
3) kids on ns are going to continue to hate on danny kass no matter what, so really none of this matters anyway

If ain't dysfunctional; it ain't family.  I remember when Danny first started competing and his dad always showed up for his comps.  They interviewed him once and he seemed pretty dad like.  I'm sure he is probably pretty pissed too. 

Pickupfulosnow  works for PBP and it appears that he has a young daughter.  It'd be funny to see what happens when, 12 years from  now, some kid with a history of doing stupid shit like Danny shows up to take out his little girl.  It's easier to be cool with it when doesn't effect you personally.

That photo is hilarious.  The original rollerblades?  That is sweet.  It looks like he had them rigged up so that putting your weight down drove the back wheel, kind of like those old scooters with the kick bar in the back.  That's some pretty cool engineering there.  I want some.
