The final decision with the armadas..

okay so i know ive made a thread on this already but i didnt get the answer i was looking for.

just got some 2009 armada ar6 in size 166. i also have 2010 marker griffons

i weight 110 pounds and im 5 foot 5 and an advanced skier.

this is my first twin and my first year of actually getting serious with park. im previously coming off skis that are size 140 (haha i know) and mounted like -6...

im going to be skiing 60% hardpacked/groomers and 40% park..or vice versa depending on snow conditions (i ski in PA)

so my main concerns are if i go -2.5 that i will have trouble with rails and if i go -1.5 that they will lack too much all mountain carving ability and i will have to change my stance drastically

if you are going to be skiing all mountain with them, go -2.5
you can adjust to 1 cm farther back on rails, and riding all mountain will be better.

two kids i ski with ride ar6 at -2.5 adn they have no problem teaching and riding park
go with -2.5 for sure

im cool with mounting -2.5 as long as it will allow me to easily allow me to progress on rails...because thats one of my main intrests in park this year

I mounted mine at dead center.  They skied fine all mountain for 2 years, even skied pow on them ha.  I think the centermount is so much better in the park.  I've skied my friend's skis that are about 2.5 back and i can never ski away switch, i have to do a revert on the ground.  Didn't notice a big rail difference that far back though.

you probably won't even be able to tell the difference on rails. its all mountain where it makes a difference, as it gets a bit more hooky. go -2.5 and u'll love it

Meh... its all about getting used to it. I went from center mounted Punx to Pipe Cleaners mounted at -5 and I am just as comfortable on the PCs as I was on the Punx

If you are really concerned couldn't you get that Marker Schizo system? Then you could move the binding to centre for pure park days..

-2.5 is good. my first twin tip (3 years ago) was salomon flyers and they were mounted like 5 back and they were ok on rails. not as good as my center skis now but i could still do them

no, some K2s come with a mounting system that is like snowboards next year to put on those or jesters.  You can mount those on any fla ski, though.  IDK why skis don't have holes spread out for multiple mount positions for Look/Tyrolia/Marker/etc. bindings like snowboards have pre set holes...I guess ski shops just want the mounting money!

oh and i would say sell the griffons, and get something better.  I just think Jesters/griffons have such a dead feeling are are too light for a park ski(yes that sounds funny, I like 4.8-5.2lbs ish bindings).  Get STH 16s/914 Labs/Tyrolia Peak 15s or even 12s at your weight(12s are pretty damn light..).  I know they are popular though...

well i just bought the 2010 griffons for 200 bucks which is a decent price. i dont want to spend anymore than that on a 12 din binding so the schizo is out of the question. everyone said that the griffon was the way to go over the sth 12/14, look px 12 jibs, and other popular 12 din binders..

the furthest id go up is to -1.5 and i hear  both you cant tell the difference or you can tell the difference with all mountain capability

My chroincs are at -3 and i like them for all over, mountain and park. I'd say -2.5 or -2 or even -3 would work. I'm a similar height and weight too, 5'4'' and 116lbs, not that it influences mounting points much, i think???

you could of got a pair of jesters mounted with surface demo skis (watch Life) for $200 in the b/s/t. I hate myself for not hopping on it sooner.

mehh..not trying to sound ignorant but i kinda had my heart set on the armadas no matter what ski i would compare them too, they were always reccomended over the others.

in my opinion i think that rolling center mount is the best....i only find that mounting further back helps me in powder, but as long as your a decent skier and you know what your doing mounting center really wont affect your all mountain and carving abilities. instead mounting center will help you greatly on riding rails and riding switch.... if you want to progress more in park but still have just as much fun cruising the mountain id look into mounting center

My Ar6s and Alpha 1s are both mounted at -2.5 and I love them for everything. Do yourself a favor and mount them at -2.5.

see but the AR6s aren't symmetrical and weren't designed to be centre mounted even the pros that use them have them mounted at least -1

i ride center mounts on my k2 public enemy and i dont have any loss of control or ability.

i think center should always be the way to go unless your riding pow

-2.5 and if you can id return your 166 for near 171 skis last year i was the same height as you and it was kinda my fisrst year getting into park sceen too i was an advanced skier like you and my 166 cleaners worked all right but i used my friends 176 ar6s and i was ten times better on rails jumps ect and if your only like 15 or under id go 171-176 because your ganna grow thats just my 2 cents

k 200 is about a rip off.  New Solly 914 labs new shipped(much better binding, wayyy better and different than STH 14, 4.8lbs a pair) are 160 many places.  New Tyrolia Peak 15s are 167 shipped from BC, they have a ton in shop(best binding ever made in that weight catagory(and Peaks are my favorite bindings ever anyways), they weigh 5.1lbs).  Ja. probably has one more pair of Peak 18s for 150+ship or so(I got Peak 18s from him, got to use them at hood and love them).  Only marker I own(or will ski by choice) is Dukes, because they are the only alpy compatible AT binding that doesn't break super fast.  just saying, 200 is baddd.

and yes, like all AR6 mounting threads, -2 to -3 is $$$$$.

where is this false info coming from?  Armada recommends -5cm or true, on all park skis, and at least that far back on all skis(maby JJ is an exception of -3 or something not sure..).  the far up mark on Armada park skis is -2.5, which tends to be what most people find the sweet spot.  nothing says -1..

hey man,

If you haven't ordered griffons, don't.  S914s, 914 Labs, S912s, STH 16s, Tyrolia Peak 15s, Peak 18s, any Mojo binding are all better bindings IMO.  However, if you are aimed at a very lightweight durable 12 din binding, only way to go it Peak 12s, which are so damn light yet durable.  At your weight you will be fine with them, and you can find them cheaper than crappy griffons.

thanks. ill look in to the peak..any other opinions on peak bindings?

and regarding the mount, if i get -1.5 instead of -2.5 will rail and swing weight capability be better? Also will mounting it -1.5 not work as well as -2.5 for all mountain?

Dude, mount them allready you'll be fine either way.

Get them mounted and start skiing (glacier, summerjib, carpet or wat ever)

Centermounting and carving will not be the problem. Maybe some disadvantage in tighter sport cus u have more tail. But its only like 1,5/2.5 cm you will get used to it.

I ride my cronics centered and i love it,

i just want to figure out where to mount them now, so when i go in to the shop to buy the boots, ill bring my skis and binding and have them mount them that day.

id say put them dead centre. 1 it looks better, 2 it helps ur progression cuz u get used to the true freeeski feeling.

i have mine at -1.5 and really regret it. i came from walls at dead centre and wish that i had also mounted my ar6s at centre. i dont think that you should mount a twintip so far behind, cuz if ur gonna ride 60 percent all mountain then i wouldnt bother getting freeskis.

i might be too harsh :D anyways mount them dead centre!!!!

Mounting them dead center cuz they look better? Do not mount skis center for the sake of looking cool. If you mount center swing weight will be messed up. These are not symmetrical skis. Go atleast -2 cm back for the skis full potential. If you don't whats the point of even getting an all mountain ski mounted center.

It honestly amazes me how many people think you need to mount your skis at center to be a better skier. Those 2-3 cms aren't going to make the difference between you being average or a pro. Balls, natural ability and skiing ability are going to be the factor there.

Mount your AR6's 1.5-2.5 back. You won't regret it, and if you go outside the park even a little it will help you out. Trust me on this one, I've been riding AR5s and AR6s for 5 years now and I have never regretted not center mounting them. In fact, in the 10+ years I've been riding park, I have never had a center mounted ski.

THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL IM MOUNTING PAST -1.5!

its just deciding -1.5 or -2.5. im prob going to go -2.5 comsider 1 centimeter will not make a difference on rails, the ski is meant to be skiied there, and 1.5 will just make skiing outside the park harder.

freeskiing is all about the looks. its not about spinning like crazy, its about steeze.
its not about tight racing shit even though you could hit a kicker faster with that, its about wearing tall tees and baggy shit.
you dont choose an ugly gf just cuz she has a good personality, ofcourse you would go for a hot girl.
if u say that functionality is important, why are you advising him to get them 2cm back, when factory recommended is 5 cm back?

You're the biggest hypocrite!  You questioned why I would advise a -2.5cm mount when factory is -5cm. At the same time you're saying mount center.

ok chill. i have my opinion u have urs. and i was telling him to mount it dead centre for THE LOOKS as you have pointed out, and u said he should mount it back, cuz of functionality. theres sooo many people (including pros) that are mounting their non symmetrical skis dead centre.
i never said he should mount the ski where it works best. and i ride alot switch, so it makes more sense for me.

lets not bitch around and argue with another. he shall decide where he wants to mount his bindings. we have just 2 opinions and ur not gonna change mine, neither im gonna change urs.
