EP PROS IN THE EAST WORTH IT?

so i have been thinking. i might want a to invest in a pow ski. i only get out for a few pow days a year and i have no need for them now but next winter i will be able to drive and hopefully get out for some more pow days. will this be a good investment on the east or will it just be a waist of money tell me your thoughts.

Maybe you don't know all there is to know about these skis, that's why you posted isn't it.

I ride a skis with a 92 waist in the west on powder days it works just fine I can't wait till I can get some pow skis but maybe think about how you could get the most use from your money. I judge the value of a ski by the use I get from it and the amount of fun I have on them.

Well, Im in the powder belt of new york state, we get 300+" snow a year and I just got the Salomon Czars, I think they will pan out nicely

depending on the conditions u ski, the obseth. arv, MSP, pimp, s5, s6, bacons, would all be great possibilities as far as an east coast 'pow' ski.

it's also personal preference, i ride seth's w/ 98 waist as my everyday ski and can't even think about going to anything smaller unless i'm park skiing

Firstly, I moved this to Gear Talk.

Secondly, I do believe the EP Pro would be NOT worth it in the East.

I live and ski in the east here in Vermont. There is maybe 1 or 2 storms a year that justify a powder specific ski, and even then a ski as wide and soft as the EP Pro would be detrimental to your skiing in tight trees. The rest of the time, the EP Pros would be sitting in the closet, collecting dust.

My recommendation is Line Prophet 100's. The 100mm width is very versatile. I use mine as my All-Mountain, everyday ski. They carve very well on groomers. They have enough torsional stiffness to be effective on ice. If you mount them at Line's forward recommended point, they ski like a dream in every condition I've taken them in.

In my honest opinion, unless you are running deep days 10+ days a year in wide-open powder-fields or widely spaced trees, the EP Pro is not the ski for you.

I think that for the most part, everyone has been helpful and has offered advice that is worth taking. Most of what Nomensteven has been saying is pretty true as well.

I agree an EP pro is not ideal for the east (I ski eastern canada and VT 60+ days, plus 14 days travel in the rockies every year). I picked up a pair of Bibby's last year and while they are a BLAST in deep snow days, they are still fun on the days when you are skiing less snow or trees ( I found my speed in the trees went up thanks to the quick maneuverability). I wouldn't want anything bigger then they 115 under foot, nor any more rocker then the early rise. They are quite a versatile ski with some tweaking of your style.

That said when I am touring and powder hunting I still use my 93mm and have no problem floating them in the deepest of days.

Do not buy a pow specific ski, get something you can still use any other day

i narrowed it down to the sfb's and the blends i ended up getting the blends with the hope that they will cut tight ec trees better, hopefully they will float well 100 waist seems adaquate, i would stay away from the ep pros in all honestly im sure there great skis man but check out the obsethed if youre dead set on a rockered ski

so did the bacon or blends suddenly vanish. there are more things than lizzies and EPs. there is a guys at my mountain with bacon and he uses them all the time. and i live in New Brunswick. powder is better than gold or oil.

but i would say blends are a good choice

i skied at cannon for 15 years. tight trees, and not too often is there deep snow since its so windy. dont get EP pros, they are not versatile enough to try to conquer cannon.

Well if you want EP Pros, then you want EP Pros.

There is not one other ski on the market save the Hellbents that are anything like the EP Pros because of the flex.

Remember, people make different skis work in all conditions.

Really you probably don't ned a ski that fat in the east. But it sounds like you have at least one other pair of skis. They'll definitely be a fun ski to have if only once or twice a year.I'd suggest going for a narrower rockered ski if that's what's drawing you to it or a ski that's slightly more versatile so you don't have a pair of skis sitting in your room most of the year. But then again where you ski may be like where I ski and gets tons of snow all year round despite the fact that it's on the East coast.

buying ep pros while you live in new hampshire is dumb.  straight stupid.  all common sense points towards getting a ski that will perform out west, but won't completely blow you over at your home mountain.

steep mountains, deep snow, heavy snow, tight trees and brutal weather.

honestly, except for racers doug coombs is the only east coaster i know of that has legit backcountry skills.

And I've decided that you do not need EP Pros. Also, you're a stubborn little asshole. People are giving you good advice and you're taking it as an insult. Just because they don't think you need the ski that you are obviously so set on doesn't mean they're ripping on you.

Look for something in the 100 waist range with minimal or just tip rocker. Shogun maybe? You still haven't really told us anything about your weight, height, skill level or anything so maybe fill us in if you want some better advice.

you can ski any ski anywhere bottom line. just some models like hellbents,eps,benthetlers arg's crj's etc... are gonna perform alot shittier on conditions that they arent specificly meant for but still fully doable .  yea they are all big and very wide but even on ice its not like they arent gonna be managable to the point. i mean a ski is a ski and ide say if your gona be buying a pair of ep pros skiing  the east ide expect that you have a spare pair that is a little more managable on shitty days to get better all around performance. i mean, i rock my eps and hellbents on small ass hills around my hometown. but also rage them up north and out west, i love using them to just jib around even on the groomers. their rockered and def something different for sure. skiing is what you make of it. would i charge hard on a steep icy hill with my eps or bents prob not. its all about what you make of them and how you ride them. though they all perform outstanding obv when used for their specific intended purpose
