if you put a pbp, tgr, msp, or l1p movie in front of the warren miller audience without telling them of the switch, they'd say, "that was the best warren miller movie ever." i went to last year's premiere, the only premiere i've been to where people walked out. i'll give it up, the average joe just sits there in ahhh, the loudest cheers come from the crashes, and they gross over 10 million dollars on tour.
i am scared of their power and their inability to know how to educate the audience on the progression of skiing. this could grow the sport in a direction that could help get events like skiing halfpipe into the olympics. they still keep the freestyle athletes as someone who has half a brain, big balls, and really doesn't care about landing.
i would like to sit in on an edit at warren miller studios just to see if all my suspicions are true: they really don't know any technical aspects of skiing, they can recognize powder, a switch dub 12 is just as worthy as a backflip crash, rails are stupid, and other facets of skiing that i respect and really strive to capture on camera.
and don't get me wrong, i wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for warren miller, but that's spilled milk and warren miller's milk is sour and outdated.
