Another Parents Rant

I have a fucking job, unlike alot of the rich kids in my town.  I actualyl do my job well (i sell furniture and work the aisles at staples =D).  I got the job on my own, without my parents nagging me.  I've never gone into debt to my parents nor have i not payed my parents back.  I've always paid for all my own expenses (skiing,gear,food,movies,cellphone bill,clothes, etc.).  I just had to clean out my entire wardrobe cause all my clothes are too small for me now.  So naturally i want to buy some new stuff.  I'm also selling some of my old ski stuff to friends and on here.  So basically i try to as independent asi can for a 16 year old going into senior year.  my grades are pretty dec too, ive gone to university tours this year, even to ones im not interested in.

and my parents just fucking flipped shit and yelled at me for two things.

1. i sold a pair of headphones and goggles for less then i bought them (obviously they were used fuck.)
2. I want to buy new clothes that i like, but they dont "approve" and think its too "expensive" even though im fucking spending my own money that i worked.  They had no fucking hand in any of my cash. 

it makes me so mad that they think they can control my money that i fucking earned.  It's not like im spending money i dont have, i'm usually cheap as hell but i just want to buy 4 shirts jeez.

p.s my parents are asian.

i'm curious what it matters that your parents are asian. Wouldn't that mean that you are also asian? I'm missing the point, i know, but i don't get why you said that.

alot of the shit is online.  so i have to paypal it.  Even if i withdraw the cash and give it to them, then do the transaction online.  they wont.  its not that they are scared of getting their credit card info taken because ive seen my dad buy loads of stuff online / ebay. 

They just dont think that its worth buying.  Some of the stuff that is in retail stores, my parents have forbid me to buy it, my dad can go online and see all my debit card transactions, withdraws and deposit.  I've seen him do it...

i've pulled something like this before, i got grounded for a month and my dad took alot of money out of my account :/

im sure it doesnt apply to all asian parents but in most cases, they have ridiculous reasons for saying "no".  and dont approve of alot of shit, for example my dad doesnt like that i go on NS cause he thinks its a waste of my time.. >.>

you actually have a very legitimate reason to rant.  unlike most of the kids on here that wine about there rent's, its not that you did something wrong, your parents are just being unreasonable.

yeah i hear you man. It's super frustrating dealing with parents who say no for seemingly no logical reason. You have to step away and approach the situation another day. That's the best advice I can give you because obviously tonight is not happening.

bummer man, my parents didnt always aprove of what i spent my money on but they always let me do it because i earned it and it wasnt theres, are you to young to have your own bank account? is that why your dad is on it? i would try to get it so they cant do anything with it or see your activity

This might be the first justified parent rant on NS.

Tell them that since you are responsible enough to make money on your own, you should be able to spend it to your liking.

If they aren't down with that, then tell them to buy the clothes they want you to wear.  Hopefully this will force them to agree with your decisions.

and yeah, im just kind of frustrated that they put this on me.  I have a bad feeling that if i approach my dad about this, he will flip and we will have an all out shout arguement.  And then i will come out with the better reasoning and he will pull out the inevitible "its my house my rules" card in which its an automatic loss =(.

my friends who do have jobs (white ppl), have 100% spending freedom.

Like one time i was going to the movies and their debit card machine wasnt working.  so me and my friends drove to the bank and withdrew money.  I took out 20$ and five minutes later i get a text from my dad asking why i withdrew money =S.  It makes it even harder to withdraw money to buy drinks from my sister...if not even trying to spend a little money.

I'm not sure, i think it would be a "youth" account and have to have a guardian there.  but im just speculating.  + my dad would be like wtf how come your not getting paid because i have direct deposit from work.  thanks for all the input too :)

Well, you should find out. Go to the bank on your own, ask the questions, let them see how responsible you are, and let them decide. You would be surprised. And when it comes to dealing with your parents, just be the calm kind hearted kid, explain your side, let them have theirs, and be on your merry way. If more serious actions are taken, your parents need some parental counseling. What parent wouldn't want to teach their kid responsibility?

a friend of mine had a problem like that with ordering clothes, so he asked me to order them for him and gave me the money for them since i have a debit card. easy as can be.

Say you had to join a union at work and they made you pay dues. Then just keep the money and buy the shirts. I did it. My parents were retards though so it might not get past asians.

Do your parents ever see your paychecks, or do you take them straight to the bank?
If #2, and if you hours vary from week to week, get some cash from your checks when you deposit them.  It will not show up online.  Not enough for your dad to notice, but enough so that you can build up cash to buy stuff.

i used to have a joint account with my parents when I was younger. It sucked becaue they could see where I went and how much money I spent. I felt like Big Brother was watching, and I didn't like it. When I turned 17 I went to a local bank, and told them I wanted to open up an account with them. I didn't tell my parents this, I kept them in the dark until I had over a $1000 in it. After that, I withdrew all my money out of the joint account and put it in my other account. Needless to say, they weren't too happy, got pissed off, but couldn't do a damn thing about it.

I have the same problem with my parents with selling my stuff. Most of the stuff I sell is DJ gear which almost every item is worth 400$ or more, so I guess I can see their anger, but its my money and im not a retard. Most of the stuff ive sold Ive made a profit because ive gotten such good deals on them

Face it man they are your parents and they do have a right to tell you what they think about what your buying.  Most people go through this in high school and its just a matter of how strict your parents are.  They are just trying to teach you about money management which is good because the fact is most people cant manage their own money today and thats why our country is in the shit hole because of lack of personal responsibility for money.  At least they are trying to help you.  I'm not exactly sure what your buying but why don't you try going online and say buy a bunch of stuff on sale at Backcountry.com.. Last year I bought like 4 hoodies and 8 T's for under $200, everything was like 50% off.  I'm pretty sure they couldn't argue against 50% off, free shipping and no tax.  But in the mean time you might want to think about making them happy as they are the ones who are (maybe) going to help pay for college...

It's your money. You should beable to do what you want with it. My parents dont let me buy stuff all the time even though i have enough money and its practical. I think they just dont like that i ski. I'd love to get some stickers, an ns shirt, more goggles and a helmet and sell my old ones. But they're stupid half the time and wont let me.

well if youre under 18, your parents technically own all your money. just like mccauley and how his mom stole millions from him. that would warrant emancipation, but thats hardly so in this kids case.

kid, just move your money so your dad cant monitor it, buy whatever you want and tell him to fuck off. i guess asians dont really think rationally.
