I got fat!? what the eff...

So I'll preface this by saying that i was 5a varsity soccer player in high school, played year round, skied a shitton and didn't drink that much in high school. weighed in at about a lean 160

Summer before my junior year of college, i'm 172!? my muscle mass is generally bigger, per se, but I've definitely got some spare tire action goin on when I sit/ do crunches. I now drink more (duh, college), probably eat less healthy, and don't play socer/ ski as much (college in the midwest/poor.) WTF!!! anyone else got this problem? I'm running, lifting, ab-working my ass off but can't seem to get rid of this shit. any advice?

same dude. i was around the 160 point with a fair bit of muscle for the longest time, now ive lost all my muscle and im at like 175. but i really like drinking.

yup. eating right and is pretty key. i too have just noticed that i am becoming a fat ass also because it keeps fucking raining so i cant trampoline so i stay inside and eat stuff while slaying noobs on halo all day

just run a lot. i suggest stop using energy to work out and just use it for running cause that will make you more lean without making your muscles bigger

Where in the Midwest do you go to school, some Midwest states tend to recruit heavier drinkers then others.


I'd say I went from about 165 to180 since I started college (I'll be a junior this fall) but then again I've been a lazy ass the whole time and if I started working out again I'd imagine I'd shed those silly, our drinking team can waterski too, pounds. All I have for exercise now is waterskiing a few times a month and running off and on, but since it's summer I'm trying to get back into shape, then in the fall I'm gonna be hitting the beautiful Gym known as the RPAC and the ARC that I have at my disposal and workout to gain some muscle again, then it'l be winter and before I know it, spring will be here again and I'll be on the river again, hopefully about 10lbs lighter and gaining some lean muscle again.

Get back into soccer man, just running doesnt really do shit. Soccer is better cause you sprint fast as fuck sometimes, and sometimes you just jog where in running you just kinda keep the same pace. Its the craziest exercise to play soccer, such a good workout, its the funnest damn sport to play ever.

i think in the past two years ive gained 40 pounds. dont get me wrong a lot of it is muscle but i definetely have a some chub i need to work off. it sneaks up on you, you really gotta watch yourself. And im almost always active, skiing,skating,swimming,biking etc so its hard to work it off when your already doing stuff all the time

If you really want to lose the spare tire start drinking about 20 cups of coffee a day. All stimulants make you lose weight. Also, studies show that green tea in really high quantities (talking 2 liters per day here) increases fat burning metabolism by 17%. Eating 6 smaller meals per day that are low in sat fat, and not eating anything past 8pm will help a ton also

Regarding exercise, you gotta do shit to burn calories (run, bike, whatever) but you also want to be boosting your testosterone levels by doing leg squats, deadlifts, etc. This will help your body to burn the fat more quickly.

I easily gained 15 -20 pounds from being an exchange student, I know its not college but its the same idea, i havent been as active as I am in the US, and since the drinking age is 18 in Argentina Ive been drinking alot more..planning on losing it when XC season starts though.

dunno, my dad's 2 friends from college would drink 2 pots (20-24 cups) a night for a year and both got ulcers, so be careful on that one

I broke up with my ex bout 7 months ago, had to move back to my parents' place temporarily, felt fucking bad and drank a lot of beer. I gained 15 kilos (33,5 pounds) in about 5 months as I did nothing. NOTHING at all except drink beer, eat shitty food and feel bad. I finally got a wake up call when I looked at a photo of myself back in December and then in the mirror: pudgy cheeks, ugh.

I started doing high interval running and hitting the gym bout in mid-June, ate a lot of protein-rich food and watched out for carbs and as for alcohol I started drinking raw spirits and white wine, no beer or long drinks etc. I lost 6 kilos in three weeks and then gained a couple back in muscle mass, hopefully more to come. Trust me, when you're still young, do your best to stay fit, that shit will definitely get harder when your metabolism starts to slow down. Good luck man.

PS. Someone explain to me, what is the difference between college and university in the States?

I lost weight first semester.

I stayed the same second semester.

I am losing weight this summer.

I hope I stay strong once I am 21, I might just drink a lot of beer.  Somehow though, I think I will be alright.

You sound like my ex. He was 6'1, a lean 160 lbs, played varsity soccer, ran and hiked a lot. Then all of a sudden he gained 15 lbs and got himself a lil belly pooch. It happens to a lot of people.
