iPod ===> hard drive..

sonofabitch..i was just switchin my external hard drive over to my new computer..and it wasn't loading right..so as a dumbass..i turn off the hard drive instead of restarting the computer and erase everything on it..
i lost all of my music..and a lot of footage..(thankfully i still have the tapes..)..but i'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to get your music off of your iPod back onto your hard drive..
i've got about 2000 songs i dont want to lose..

You're pretty much F'd dude. There's a copy protection built into the iPod that keeps people from pssing songs around. It's realy lame.

YOU ARE NOT FUCKED READ THIS I GOT IT OUT OF A MAC MAG:

'While you can copy music from a Mac onto an iPod, you can't do it the other way round. Or can you? Download the freeware utility 'Cocktail' from www2.dicom.se/cocktail , and use it to turn on invisible files. Double-click the iPod_Control folder on your iPod, then the Music folder. Here's where all your MP3's are!'

I don't have an iPod so i dont know for sure but i got it out of a MacFormat magazine and it most definetly will work. when i read your post i remembered reading that and bam! hope i've helped :)

^thanks sensei..i know they're all on there..i just wasn't sure if it was possible to get them onto my computer because most mp3 players don't let you do that..
i found a program called PodManager..but it costs 7.95..i'm still searchin for a free one..

Windows has a few free programs that will let you do that, like EphPod, but I dont know of any on the Mac...

go to versiontracker and search for ipod. There are quite a few free programs that will do what you want, like Rob's Ipod Exporter

it's because there has to be some sort of DRM built into it to make the RIAA happy and iTunes legal.

But can't you use an iPod as an external HDD? What's the difference between an audio track and any other? Shame on Apple for this one.

you can use it as an external hardrive, the only thing that you can't pull of the ipod that easily are the songs that have been loaded on through some software ie. the ones you can listen to

is there any way to do it? i mean i want to backup all my music on my ipod on a different computer from where i got them...and i don't know how to get them off, any suggestion's?

just go to macupdate.com or any other mac download site and search for a program to download tunes from ipod to harddrive. there are like 15 programs out there for free that do it.
