if you want to use the word mecca then yeah chamonix/mont blanc is it, it's where everything began (extreme skiing). want proof? see blizzard of ahhs, and or steep. chamonix is still one of the most challenging, largest, and most fun places to ski on this planet. not to mention one of the funnest towns to party in!
Chamonix is epic and it is one of many incredible places in the European alps.
Because yeah, for freeriding there is also the Arlberg region, there is Andermatt, there is Engelberg, there is the Monte Rosa region (both the Zermatt side and the Alagna side), there is La Grave, there is Verbier, there is the Bernese Oberland, etc... etc... to name one, Monte Rosa is more massive and virtually unknown compared to Chamonix. So no, there is not one mecca in Europe.
And Chamonix is pretty shitty if you're not prepared to do mountaineering and work with a local guide. Other places have better access to more and safer untracked pow.
I'm taking a year off before university and the oppurtunity to live in annecy (a smallish french town just 30 mins from geneva)presented itself so i took it. I'll be skiing, traveling, filming and hopefully meeting a lot of people along the way.
and yourself? where and for how long are you going for?
