ok i got backflips and front flips dialed off a diving board and on the trampoline. how do i take the tricks from the tramp to the snow? is there a secret to learning them?

Frontflips are the same, backflips are more like gainers. When you are trying them on snow you need to commit to it 110%, not so much frontflips because they are pretty natural, but backflips are definetly scarier and you wont make it around if you half-ass it.

i can only do fronts on snow

but i can do a double gainer on a high diving board but i cant rotate enough on snow for some reason

I find that backflips are easier than frontflips on the snow.  The way the jump kicks you feels more natural to do a backflip to me.  I've always found frontflips more scary because they're blind as opposed to backflips where you can spot your landing.

tuck, huck and pray

and bring some band-aids ;)

youll be just fine, they arent that hard at all, especially if you have something with quite a kick (imho works better for fronts) And maybe try em off cliffs with steep landings, thats the easyest...

ya i have the same question. i get alot of rotation on diving boards because of the grippy surface. double frontflips are no problem form a 1 meter board.
but im really afraid of running and doing a backflip, not so afraid of doing a backflip looking away from the water. currently i think its easiest to do lincolns, so im most likely to try lincoln flips first.

but i cant imagine doing a frontflip on snwo, because i cant get the spin. any advice?
is it true that its harder to get rotation on snow? should i just try it in pow? and how likely are my chances that i will stick it?

I tried my first backflip this year on a really steep kicker on a pow day. I landed on the back of my head once and my face twice. And the day after as i was icing my neck i realised that my problem was this

I really did commit, i came to the jump, crouched, and hucked it as hard as i could. But my problem was that i just didnt keep looking back. Probably cause i didnt have much air so i was really scared of landing on my head with it bent back.

So my advice would be to do it on a steep, pretty good size kicker on a pow day, or when the snow is nice and soft. And to look back, reallly look back

yeah man okay  heres the deal.  find a spot you know has lots of snow and build an kicker before a pow day so you have a solid non breaky lip to try stuff off of. try and make the jump pretty poppy. 

next get jacked.  have some energy drinks,  pump some tunes, whatever.

focus,  but don't overthink.

tell yourself your gonna do it, then just kick a backflip out.  the first few you may crash,  but thats where having pow is great!

keep working at it, and don't be too scared-  fear is the number one way to get hurt.  remember- being timed equals going home disappointed!

ball up and throw it on a 20. i attempted and failed its not thet scary to balls up adn throw ur hips up in the air. NOW im not saying i would do it off a 60. im just saying get it down on tramp and then do the same thing on a 20 foottter.

The best advice I can give anyone who wants to flip for the first time is to remember to pop. Most people get so worried about getting the clip around that they absorb the jump and huck as hard as they can. Don't worry about it, you'll get it around. Pop and get a decent takeoff, it gives you a lot more time in the air and it gives you so much more control over the speed of the flip.

word no prob.  yeah i agree with the going a little bit bigger part too.... just make sure you have a soft safe landing and people who can flip with you. thats how i learned.  peer pressure is a good tool haha

make sure u commit all the way through. most of the first time attempts i see people lose it once they're exactly inverted (on backs at least) just pop, huck and ull make it.

Backflips are scarier I find, but way way easier than frontflips on snow. I would do the backflip first and try to get some water ramp coaching or something for the frontflips.

bein from the midwest mine were a pain in the ass cause you never have any powder to land on, so i learned em onto pure ice.. second try i got it and once you get them once its pretty easy to continue doing them..

I haven't read everyone else's posts but here's my two cents:
1. Backflips: Pop up and thrust your hips out, head back, chin to the sky. I've seen people trying to learn on water ramps and just huck back and almost hit their head on the lip. Popping up is crucial. If it's a smaller jump, you'll have to tuck in your knees and if it's a bigger jump, lay it out. Putting your head back and chin up is important for spotting.
2. Frontflips: If it's a small jump, tuck and huck. On really small jumps I lift my arms up and then throw them down as i pop out and tuck my chin and knees in. You will feel your noses load up and spring you around on the smaller jumps. On big jumps pop out and extend. When you see the landing coming up, tuck into a ball and you will flip around and stomp a superman front.

my only experiences with backflips were not so good. it feels nothing like a trampoline, its like a gainer off a diving board but with weights on your feet. theres tricks (or flips) with much more style that dont require such forced momentum that i have grown to like more

I fucking tried at hood today on tline. Didnt commit and throw it hard enough and slammed onto my back, fucked my hip up pretty well.

I tried it off a little lip that I thought would have some powder after it, definitely turned out to be hardpack...


I got the first hurt thing outta the way, just gotta throw it more. should I wait for some kickers?
