alright, i have about 1.41 GB left on my macbook. so i come to you NS! is there way to make more space on my macbook? if not what is the most plausible solution? i have looked on the apple website and it looks like my two choices would be time capsule and the Lacie rugged hard drive. however it says they are just to back up my data, so will it give me more space to put stuff or just back up the stuff i already have? which of the two is better?

as in get a new internal HD that is bigger and then have it installed or do it yourself and then transfer the files.

if you use an external HD such as the ruged one you were talking about, you can use it as an off computer regular HD, it's just most commonly used to back up data because that one is not very fast since it only runs on a USB2.0 and doesn't have firewire which runs at a faster bus speed and therefore transfers data quicker between computer and external allowing it to be more easily used as a second piggybacked HD.

you can always google these things you know, it is truly a wonderful resource for knowledge on the internet.

also if i got time capsule that saves and stores data wirelessly would it not be slow like the rugged hard drive? be like i have more GB without having to get a new internal hard drive that is bigger?

The time capsule is really, really expensive for what it does.

I suggest you go to your local bestbuy and get an External USB Harddrive. I've got a Seagate 1TB Freeagent external drive for $60 from best buy a couple weeks ago. I highly recommend it.

download the program "Disk Inventory X".

you might find that theres a bunch of stuff you didn't know you had. I found out i had doubles of like 25 gigs of music. Just don't delete anything that you don't know about.

And yeah, DONT get a time capsule. Fucking ripoff.

monolingual is the program that deletes languages.

get grandperspective too, it lets you see how much space each thing takes up on your HD in a visual way so its easy to see the bigger files

externals FTW. any video files should go on there along with things that you dont want to have when you are traveling. i leave all music on my mac HD so i am not worrying about transfering files when i want to disconnet my laptop. external FTW

Get Grand Perspective at http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/ (free download) - it'll show you very clearly if you've got big files taking up space you might want to ditch. Search for system file names on Macrumors before messing with them.

Get an external drive. You should have one anyway to back up your files, your hard drive could fail at any time. TimeCapsule is nice but expensive and really nothing too special. You can use Time Machine with any external drive. I don't like the way it works though so I use SuperDuper and set up my own backups.

i got grand perspective and freed up over 60 gigs of unneeded bullshit that i thought i deleted a long time ago, but was still somewhere on my HD. its by far the best way to free up more space. GET IT!!

definitely dont get a time capsule...my bro got one and it wont even let him store files on it and go through them wirelessly. also, thpse things are a bitch to set up...when my HD filled up, i got a 500gig external and backed everything up, then moved all my movies and other large files over to that and deleted them off my comp..that gave me an extra 20gigs in my mac's internal HD
