Ask yourself this NS: What is it about silence that makes us un-easy?

Is it the feeling that something should always be making noise?

is it because we are so used to hearing many different sounds every day?

What is it ns... that makes us un-easy when put into a silent environment?

because if two people are in a room and its totally silent you feel like you should say something. or the other person should say something. if theres nothing to say, its awkward.

silence is here, within us all, and everywhere. It is one of the many things that will never change. on another, lighter note. don't you just hate it when you are riding in the car with your parents and they turn the radio off and just drive in silence.... my dad does it all the freaking time.... but of course when i have my ipod with me his cranking his oldies...

I don't like how people think silence is so awkward.

Sometimes its nice to just be with someone and not say anything and just chill and listen and be at ease without blabbering about some bullshit.  I love how in silence though, people just race to think of anything to say and its funny how hard they try and what comes out.

But seriously, just chilling and listening to music is the shit.

in movies, shit gets crazy when it gets quiet. movies=life. Hence, psycho ax murderers are standing outside your door waiting for it to get quiet. Then they run in and kill you. Its pretty simple when you think about it

i think its because when everyones silent you feel that everyone is just watching you, which it is sorta that way. when people are conversing, everyones mind is on the conversation, instead of watching you

well i gotta say i love silence. but also its probably mostly culture. without going into it too much, here's an example, some native american cultures consider silence great and regard breaks in the silence as the undesirable thing

i really wish this whole thing would go away, i have no problem with it. if you dont have anything good to say then shut the fuck up. i remember being in highschool and it would get quiet at a table or party or something and someone would have to say something just to say something. if you are going to say some bullshit just to make noise then dont bother.

just let it be awkward for the other person, i've never felt awkward in that situation yet. usually the lower value person will try and start conversation starting with soo... because they can't take that silence. its actually a useful thing with girls, just say something and just shutup, and she'll make an effort to restart the conversation, and the more effort a girl puts in for you the more she'll like you. hard to explain, but when you experience it you'll know, just try it.

i fucking hate when people say things like that "this is awkward" yeah now you made it twice as awkward douchebag, just shut your mouth and it wont be as awkward.

also another thing, apparently in social situations conversations die at 20 of and 20 after for some reason, at this one bonfire i was at there was like probably 20 kids there and we checked the clock everytime it went silent, pretty much everytime the convos died it was 20 of or after the hour.

i prefer silence and the people i consider to be my best closest friends are the ones who i am able to spend the most time with comfortably in silence but i would also say that those friends are the ones i have the best convos with. but yea sometime when im with people i don't know that well silence feels awkward. i wish i was indian

i agree, i'm a pretty quiet guy and i'm very comfortable sitting in slience
the only time it makes me feel uncomfortable is when i can see the other person trying to think of something to say because they think the silence is awkward. Then i try to think of something so they feel more comfortable... being nice is a vicious cycle haha

The only time I don't like silence is when I'm on a date with a girl and we are at the dinner table.  If you get silence at the dinner table then u suck. 

I enjoy silence for the most part. It is kind of stressful walking on the streets on a busy day, all the cars and bustle gets annoying pretty quick.

you shouldnt be going on dinner dates in the first place at least until the 3rd time you go out with her, dinner dates suck, period. they set a dating frame and are just plain boring don't do them.
