I've never found rap lyrics to be that great.... they're borderline poetic at best, most of the time its just talking about whats happening and making it rhyme...
i prefer listening to songs and hearing some crazy surreal lyrics that really make you think, rather than just listening to a guy whos good at making big words rhyme.

you aren't listening to the right rap then my friend.
My favorite style of rap is where the lyricist tells a story (whether fictional or otherwise)

Kinda my point... i find that its all just storytelling in a very literal way... sure they throw in a bunch of smilies to make shit rhyme but it really doesnt appeal to me like normal song lyrics would.

Ghostfacekilla is right man, get out and listen to some different stuff. Most of the stuff i listen to isnt that at all. Check out stuff like DL incognito, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mac Lethal, Outerspace, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Shad, and basically anyone in my list of favorite music in my profile. Spark up a blunt and just sit back and actually listen. The lyrics are pretty deep.

Tech is one of hiphop's greatest storytellers, and lyricists for that matter too. Dance with the devil and You never know are conclusive proof of this.

in response to the people talking about rap telling story i was about to post this song. a very good reference to a story that may not be the most pleasant to hear, but still very good. one that comes to mind that is a little more pleasing but with a little less of a story is Sunshine by Atmosphere, very chill song.
